1. I've loved him for decades.
It tugs at my heart to see him looking, and sounding, elderly. To me, he is still Lucas Jackson or Butch Cassidy.

My pantry boasts a few bottles of "newman's own" salad dressing, too.

4. I met him many, many years ago
None of that is fake. He's the real deal and as down to Earth as any human can be.

5. I've heard that
from others who've met him. And it comes across when you see him interviewed.

He's a guy who was incredibly blessed with looks and talent, but he never took it for granted.

6. He doesnt sign autographs. ....wait....that's a good thing.
He is known, at least on the Indy car circuit where i used to see him every weekend, as not signing autographs for fans. The reason is anecdotal, having to do with an incident where someone supposedly shoved a piece of toilet paper and a pen in front of him while he was taking a leak in a mens room. (at least that is one story i heard)

He is charitable beyond words, however. His Newman's Own" brands have given over $200 million to charities over the years and he has not pocketed one single red cent from the sale of the products that bear his likeness.

I consider myself to have been very lucky to have actually gotten him to sign something for me. It was a small, model racing helmet that was to be auctioned off for charity. When i asked him if he would mind, he said "Sure, no problem. Stop by the coach later." (The Newman/Haas Racing hospitality motorcoach that has been a fixture at Champ Car races for years)

He was very gracious and signed the helmet for me. Of course, i gave the helmet up to be auctioned and never saw it again. But I still got his autograph!

9. I WANT to buy Newman's Own.
But the labels list high fructose corn syrup for pretty much everything but the popcorn.

to have worked for Paul and Joanne for a few years. It's true. They really are incredibly GOOD people.
Trust me, they deserve your admiration. :)

15. Are you able to say in what capacity?
I am curious, but understand if you would prefer not to say. I worked on the CART/Indy Car circuit from '89 through '96 and saw him regularly. Never saw Joanne, though. She never came to the races. I heard she would come for the 500 but went straight up to the Newman/Haas suite at the Speedway. She was never a fixture in the paddock.

17. Sort of jr. gal friday.
the Major Gal Friday was a friend of mine for years. I mostly worked in LA - Laguna Seca was the team's home then so I'd go up there for races, testing, etc. at various times during the year. Many good memories of those days.

16. Today I received emails from both Newman and Redford
I wish my Mom was still alive. She would have flipped if I told her Robert Redford and Paul Newman both wrote to me!
