Should the Vice Presidency Be Abolished?
I don't mean right now - but I *DO* mean perhaps passing a constitutional amendment to abolish the Vice Presidency and replace it with an appointed position of "First Secretary" confirmable by the Senate AND the House. By putting him or her in charge of a formal department with oversight and clearly-delineated responsibilities, we can perhaps prevent some of the abuses of power that come about by the Constitution's vagary on the position as it currently stands.

6. Jeez, hasn't the constitution suffered enough with the republicans...
without democrats trying to cut it up too?

I think I'd like to just work within the poor thing for awhile.

12. The difference being in this case that someone is proposing amendments...
to the US Constitution, not violations of the Bill of Rights.

Can't we discuss different ideas of government? What's so bad about this idea that is rises to the level of cutting it up?

9. That's a great idea.
We definitely do need some type of big overhaul in the executive branch, Cheney has really exploited some major flaws in the US Constitution to get us all here.

18. That's the pessimistic view. The optimistic view is that: sometimes mistakes are *learned from*.

20. If there is a history of it from one to the next regardless of the party...
then you may have a point. Otherwise...no, not because of the actions of one.

16. No
If you're going to start tinkering with the Constitution there are a lot more things ahead of this. The Equal Rights Amendment springs to mind.

19. Why settle for the flunky? Abolish both the presidency and VP.
If we must have a government, at least a parliamentary system would give us more say over the bosses.
