Coverage on the networks of NBC Universal is as follows:

NBC will broadcast a three-hour primetime special (8-11 p.m. ET/PT) featuring highlights of performances from around the world, including live moments from the U.S. concert at Giants Stadium in New Jersey. Hosted by Ann Curry (Today) with Carson Daly (Last Call with Carson Daly), the special will also feature the biggest and brightest stars of today with information on what viewers at home can do to help with environmental and conservation issues.

Bravo will present a live 18-hour broadcast and "best of" moments from the concerts from 8 a.m. ET on July 7 to 2 a.m. ET on July 8. For online users, www.BravoTV.com will feature live blogging about the show, tips and features on how to live a greener life, and a complete schedule of Bravo's on-air concert moments. And for conservationists on-the-go, Bravo offers green tips and 30-minute alerts for upcoming performances via text message.

Sundance Channel and Universal HD will air 22-hour live broadcasts and "best of" moments from the concerts from 4 a.m. ET on July 7 to 2 am. ET on July 8. Universal HD is the only channel where the entire day's concerts will be broadcast in high definition.

Telemundo will broadcast a one-hour special from 7-8 p.m. ET (July 7) and mun2 will broadcast a two-hour special from 5-7 p.m. ET (July 7). Both specials will feature the hottest Latin acts performing at the concerts including Shakira, Enrique Iglesias and Mana among others.

CNBC will feature a seven-hour primetime broadcast from 7 p.m. ET on July 7 to 2 a.m. ET on July 8.

MSNBC will broadcast special coverage of this global concert event throughout the day with live reports from the concerts in New York and London.

The "Live Earth" concerts will take place in New York, London, Sydney, Tokyo, Shanghai, Johannesburg, Rio de Janeiro, Hamburg and Istanbul. Some of the hottest musical acts scheduled to perform include: Madonna, Bon Jovi, The Police, Sheryl Crow, Kelly Clarkson, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kanye West, Melissa Etheridge, John Mayer, Faith Hill, Shakira, Mana, Black Eyed Peas, Fall Out Boy, Enrique Iglesias, Duran Duran and many more. The 24 hours of music across all seven continents will deliver a call to action and the solutions needed to answer the call. Live Earth marks the beginning of a multi-year campaign led by The Alliance for Climate Protection and its Chair, former Vice President Al Gore, to move individuals, corporations and governments to take action. The concerts will be produced by Control Room, of which Kevin Wall is the CEO. Wall won an Emmy as worldwide executive producer of "Live 8" and has produced numerous live concert events.

I think this is one thing that TV is still better for, but if internet is the only way to view it for you, then it's the way to go.

this may be one of the most watched live internet broadcast. it will be interesting to see how the servers do and what kind of problems they have.

4. kick, and a question about satellite TV

has anyone tried setting up a temporary satellite receiver/dish setup?

we are doing a public event for the Live Earth concert and we need reception. I have a DirecTV dish in my basement I could bring. so i'm thinking if I can just find someone with an active direcTV account, they would only have to bring their box. we could use my dish, their box, and connect it to the projector. I'm wondering if this would work, and if so, how do we point the dish to the satellite?

9. I use Dish, but

there is probably an analogous set of menus for DirectTV. Find something called "system setup" or similar. Poke around a bit and find the installation routine, and it should give the Direct TV subscriber the sky coordinates for pointing the dish. Once on site, aim it roughly that direction and use the feedback info within that installation routine to fine tune the aim. Of course, try this out and experiment before the actual event. The downside is that there might be some difficulty for the box owner in resetting the box to work with his/her home system, but my guess is that there would not be any problem.

I don't buy into it.... Most of today's kids know Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd just as much as they know that other new stuff. There's a reason there's a classic rock station (or two) in every town. The kids realize our era was better but they won't admit it.

It's OK, I still have hope there's another 60s coming just around the bend, musically speaking. :)

...although I've got Physical Graffiti on my ipod and it came up on the random shuffle tonight. It had been a while.

But 23 years after I bought Murmur and Reckoning on LP, I'm still a huge R.E.M. fan. So for me it's not so much about the decade as it is the quality music from any given era. There's some good stuff out there right now, there's some Bright Eyes I really like. Radiohead has done some truly trippy shit.

Speaking of R.E.M., I'm sort of surprised Stipe & Co. aren't showing up for this deal, like I'm sort of surprised old Hippie environmental stalwarts like Phil Lesh or CSN aren't on the list. I thought I saw Steve Earle listed, but I can't find him now. No Wilco, no Jay Farrar.. I dunno- most of the music, it's not so much that it's current, it's just that it's not my speed. Roger Waters, for sure. David Gray is worth checking in for, there's a few RHCP or even Foo Fighters tunes I find tolerable. I really liked the Police--- when I was 12, although way back when I did see Sting open up for the Dead and he played some good stuff.

But overall, I look at the lineup, and.. I think, Jesus... is this really what the planet is listening to these days? Kelly Clarkson? Isn't she one of the winners from that tv show?

Yeah, I'm willfully cut off from the pulse of American "Culture", I guess.

but all in all, I think it is past due time for a festival of 60s, 70s, and 80s musicians who are still around.

15. Yeah, never made it to one of those.

We had the Harmony Festival up here a couple weeks ago, that was fun. They're trying to branch out to "the kids" with different acts, too. I certainly can't get to shows like I used to, so it's probably for the best that most of the acts I really enjoyed seeing live aren't out there anymore. I did see Roger Waters a couple years back, he was great.

You're probably right- the important thing is to reach the audience that needs reaching. Gore's a smart guy, I suppose he knows what he's doing with this. I'm sure it'll be huge with that assortment.

16. Hey, I am still young and part of this new "hip musical demographic"...

And I fully admit your generation had much better music than mine does. We have a few really good bands, but not anywhere near the wealth of great music that came out in the sixties and seventies.

I am young, and I agree with the previous posters that said that Roger Waters is one of the only musical acts worth watching at Live Earth. I am sure I will watch more than just him, but he will be the only one I am really excited to see. Of course considering I have tickets to see him in person in just two days, that will probably be even a lot more exciting than watching him streamed on the internet.

19. Two words: media consolidation

When the media sits in the hands of just a few corporations we lose variety. I mean could you possibly imagine a band like Pink Floyd getting signed to a major label today? What about Bob Dylan? There are just as many talented musicians out there today as there were thirty years ago, they are just not the ones that get endless radio airplay.

seems like with all these sites like Myspace and just the internet in general there's a new way to get recognized as a musician. At least I hope that's the case because I plan on being one of them. :)

Bands still generally get exposure through radio airplay, I am not aware of a single band which is extremely popular who gained their popularity largely because of the internet. I think it will happen in the future, but we are not there yet.
