It isn't. It is a judgment issue. No one is going to take Coulter to court. The government is not going to silence her, at least not based on her speech. Elizabeth Edwards is simply appealing to common sense and decency. A certain amount of satire and ridicule is fine in politics. It is as much a part of our political life as the serious debate. But Coulter goes much, much, much too far.
I do not watch TV, but from what I have seen, I think she has very serious emotional problems that probably go back to her early childhood. Exacerbating them, she takes Ayn Rand much too literally. Life, as she will discover in the next 15 to 20 years, just doesn't work like Ayn Rand preached.
The media is exploiting Coulter like the old circuses used to exploit people with birth defects. She is their freak. She can be counted on to draw the crowds who are fascinated by her grotesquely thin, hermaphrodite appearance and her willingness to say anything to elicit a shocked reaction from the audience. Coulter is a fad, an unfortunate fad. She contributes nothing to the political debate.
As she ages in the next few years, she will look increasingly gaunt, tired and boring. Older women (and men) who find their happiness in love have a glow that makes them beautiful in spite of the deterioration of their skin and the sagging of their musculature. Call it personality if you will. On the other hand, older women (and men) who find their satisfaction and meaning in anger, in putting other people down, in controlling others, in cruelty, look like what they are -- mean and ugly. The aging process bares the soul. And no amount of surgery seems to change the way age affects your expressions and your mannerisms and your overall look. I have many friends who have become more beautiful as they have grown older. I also know a few people who have become uglier. When you look at an older person, you see who they have become, not what they could be. You see what they have made of themselves, not what they could have made of themselves. Ayn Rand Coulter is ugly. In just a few years, she will not longer be photogenic, and her followers will simply lose interest in her. I hope she is saving her money and investing in wisely, because it is all that will be left to her before you know it. That's all she is going to have -- no love, no kindness, no compassion, no husband, no children, no grandchildren -- just her and her money. Oh, and a few die-hard followers who are just as mean as she is and not much fun to be around.
I do not believe that God casts us into Hell. While greed and hate in others can cause us to live in misery, only we can cast ourselves into spiritual hell. Certainly that is where Ann Coulter is throwing herself -- right down the black hole of anger, bitterness and misery. Everything she says about others will eventually come back to rest on her. based on a good look at his life, That is, after all, where it all comes from in the first place. She is just projecting what is in her onto others. For example, Edward is most probably heterosexual. That is not, in and of itself, good or bad. But that is what Edwards is -- heterosexual. He married a beautiful, sexy woman who adores him. They have several children together. He trusts and confides and respects his wife. He appears to be very comfortable with his wife and with his relationship to her. He relates to his wife as a man relates to a woman he loves. That is very apparent from the kind of secret communication that goes on between them when they are together.
Coulter is the one with the problems about her sexual identity. She is not married and, from what I have heard, has no long-term significant other. She has no children. I don't know her personally, but it is very possible that she is just projecting her issues about her own sexual identity on Edwards. I don't think Coulter even knows or could imagine that the kind of communication that the Edwards share could exist. Coulter is just a pitiful person. She is the media's favorite freak. And she probably knows it. She probably realizes that if she stops acting like a freak, she will have to get a regular 9 to 5 job. And that's why she keeps on doing what she is doing.
