Alexander joins revolt on Iraq -Repub Senator from TN
From the Memphis Commercial Appeal This Morning. On the Top of the Front page even. This is my first knowledge of him breaking with the Bush Administration. Then again he is up for re-election in 2008.

WASHINGTON -- Amid a sudden Republican rebellion against President Bush's Iraq policy, Sen. Lamar Alexander said Tuesday that Sen. Richard Lugar's speech suggesting an end to the troop surge and a new approach in Iraq is "an important indication that the train is about to move in a different direction."

Break

Alexander said that when someone as senior and respected as Lugar suggests a fundamental shift in Iraq war strategy, Bush "needs to recognize that in order for us to have a long-term, even limited role in Iraq, he's got to have stronger bipartisan support than he has today."

Alexander says the U.S. needs to "get out of the combat business in Iraq and into the support, equipping and training business in a prompt and honorable way."

That sentiment was growing among Republican senators.

1. Put your money where your big mouths are, boys.
If you believe it, then vote it. Work with the Democratic majority to craft a bill bringing the troops home. If you truly believe what you're saying, you can convince enough armchair-warrior Republicans to join you and make the bill veto-proof.

Get to work.

6. "I can no longer follow a military deserter who pretends to be Commander" - Alexandar

"Frankly, it's embarrassing to see that a Military Deserter like George Connecticut Preppy Bush, and Dickie "Five Military Deferments" are sending our sons and daughters off to die for republicon oil profits. There's just no way I can justify this to my constituents any longer."

7. The pukes are gonna try to steal our thunder. If they manage to end the war on their own,
the Dems are gonna look(!) weak and ineffective.

14. I don't believe they're trying to end the war so much
as just trying to muck up the picture, sort of like Bush just prior to the selection of 2000 saying he would limit greenhouse gases only to reverse him self immediately after coming to power.

8. Here is what I expect they will do
Sept 2007 declare victory. Surge was great success. Eighty thousand troops brought back to USA and huge ticker tape parade with Bush* riding in lead military vehicle wearing fancy flight jacket. Eighty thousand troops will remain in support of Iraqi government and to chase down Al Qaeda. Blackwell will increase it's Security forces by twenty thousand which Government will reimburse for and Republicans and Bush* will be huge Heroes..Democrats will have egg all over their face and still a hundred Iraqis and at least two Americans will die every day...America will have "won" the "war" and yet we will remain in their country with about a hundred thousand combat personel and Iraqi oil will be under US Control...Nothing really will have changed. We will still be occupying another country and killing will be a daily occurance but Republicans will have declared victory and MSM will run with it. See Republicans keep America safe while Democrats dither...is this too hard to imagine??

It will be all the rage. The closer to '08, the more crowded that train will get.
