1. I think you mean Glasgow airport...
Edited on Sat Jun-30-07 10:38 AM by RufusTFirefly
.. and that the terminal has been evacuated. Normal car accidents aren't breaking news.

Car on fire crashes into airport

A car on fire has been driven at the main terminal building at Glasgow Airport, police have confirmed.

Eyewitnesses have described a Jeep Cherokee being driven at speed towards the building with flames coming out from underneath.

they are 'speculating' this and that.

Report: Cars Crash Near Glasgow Airport
~snip~
GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) -- Two cars crashed outside Glascow's international airport Saturday, with one of them bursting into flames, police said.

The cars collided outside the main terminal at Glasgow International Airport, Strathclyde Police spokeswoman Lisa O'Neil said. She did not confirm media reports saying the motorist tried to drive into the terminal building. ''One car is on fire, but it is not clear if it went inside the terminal building,'' she said.

Why the fugg is this British man blinking like this. Is this some signal?

10. Fear Fear Fear...They Can't Get Enough Fear
They've already suspected Al Queda and the immediate question is "are we next?". I've seen a bunch of the usual suspect talking heads already projecting how many people would be killed and how easy it would be to happen in our major cities. The CNN execs must be extactic...ramping up fear for ratings.

22. This Coverage Is Shameful
They keep looping the same few snippets of video over and over. Yes, this looks terrible, but the leap to conclusions by these "pundits" is astounding.

Now I hear another "newsbabe" ask for the umpteenth time "what's this attack mean to the United States". Game On!

Ain't it something this stuff is happening on a Friday and Saturday...sure to be ramped up on tomorrow's talking head shows...and right after Gordon Brown became PM. That's what I'm wondering about.

:hi:

Enjoy the weekend!

How ironic the wingnuts are dying to play up these bombings, but if this were a Mosque or bridge in Baghdad and 100 people perished...well that's "biased" news.

13. Well, you know what THIS means, don't you?????
You go to the airport to pick someone up, you'll have to just give the fuck up--pay the exorbitant parking, and get out of your car and wait; or get harassed if you do the "Let the eagle soar" technique of circling the airport access roads repeatedly as you frantically eye the sidewalks and the distant doors, slowing down to a dead crawl at the terminal where your intended target should be exiting...you juggle your cellphone and the steering wheel..."Where the hell are ya? I'm IN FRONT of Terminal Whatever!!! Oh, fachrissake, why didn't you TELL me you were on the DEPARTURES level!!! Jeeeeeeeeeesus!!!"

And for those of us returning home, looking for that good friend or relative doing the "Let the eagle soar" routine, we'll likely have to hump our mangled, inspected, picked over (with anything good stolen from our checked bags) belongings even further, winding around Jersey barriers, stepping off unreasonably steep curbs, prancing across walkways where circling, angry drivers aren't even bothering to look to see if there's a hapless air traveller in the road....

Ah, yes...another clusterfuck in the making, courtesy of your friends at BE AFRAID BE VERY AFRAID Productions!!!!!

49. If you mean "deliberate" in terms of government sanction, then I disagree.
This kind of story is perfect for the new age of news. It's entertainment now, facts don't matter, repercussions don't matter, responsibility doesn't matter. Only DRAMA matters. They can call themselves "news" but it doesn't have to mean anything like what we are used to having it mean.

We don't have to like it, and we can try to resist it, but attributing a conspiracy to it based purely on a completely predictable media reaction...not credible.

47. Okay that is more than wrong...it's stupid
I speak from the experience of 20 years as tech at a car dealer.

Cars catch fire. All it takes is an oil leak, a fuel leak, a hydraulic fluid leak, an electrical short or an overheating catalytic converter. I've restored many, many burnt vehicles to like new condition courtesy of the owner's insurance. Crashes cause fires too, but cars don't explode like they do in the movies, they just burn.

39. BBC says Whitehall says it's *NOT* BEING TREATED AS A NATIONAL SECURITY INCIDENT.

(Thought I'd best type in all caps so as to shout over the CNN fearwhores.)

At least according to the blurb I saw on the BBC a little while ago, Whitehall's saying the incident isn't connected to national security, and is being treated as a criminal incident.

You could hear the disappointment in the anchor's voice.

48. My take on it is that if it's not considered to be related to national security, then it's not ...

... considered to be related to terrorism. And the disappointment was because there's just not as much sensationalist fear value in a plain ol' vanilla crime (:sarcasm:)

I live less than 20 miles (as the crow flies) from that airport. But I'm not going to live in fear.
