they published a book "Rebuilding America's Defenses" (the PNAC document) saying we needed to invade Iraq
they floated the idea of regime change. no one bought it, so they dropped it, but not before some progressives coined the term "Regime change begins at home."
then they tried to show a pattern of Iraqi violations of sanctions, but that kept leading back to Cheney's Halliburton, so they dropped it.
then they executed the PNAC "Pearl Harbor-type event" and "al Qaeda" and OBL became the greatest villains since Hitler
then they lied and lied and lied about Iraq being involved in 9-11
then they lied and lied and lied some more about Iraq being involved in 9-11
then they put on a full-court press of lies about WMD, smoking gun mushroom clouds, drones of death, chemical and bio weapons and duct tape and plastic sheeting for houses, mobile weapons labs, aluminum tubing, yellowcake from Niger, and blah blah blah . . . no sane person believed them, but the media and the "democrats" pretended they did.
then they lied and lied and lied some more about Iraq being involved in 9-11
so we illegally invaded Iraq along with our coalition of the unwilling.
then there were no WMD.
then they lied and lied and lied some more about Iraq being involved in 9-11
then the US military and Chalabi's buddies (all fifteen of them) knocked down Saddam's statue and Mission was Accomplished.
then there still were no WMD.
then Saddam was the worst thing since Hitler and Pol Pot rolled into one. (We were back to "regime change.")
then there still were no WMD.
and no Saddam.
then they lied and lied and lied some more about Iraq being involved in 9-11
then there were at least two attempts to smuggle WMD into Iraq, one thwarted in Basra by British journalists and one thwarted outside Iraq by Brewster Jennings.
and still no Saddam, although there were a couple of dead sons.
then there was a "spider hole" and Saddam was ours.
then there was the longest, slowest, least informative kangaroo trial in the history of fascism.
then there still were no WMD, but there was Plamegate and Brewster Jennings was no more.
then there still were no WMD. . and then no Saddam because someone with dubious jurisdiction killed him.
then there was regime change, but the insurgents kept the ghost of Saddam alive.
then the problem was "al Qaeda" (a synonym for covert CIA ops in the Middle East
but there was no civil war, just "terrorists"
then there were religious extremists and "al Qaeda"
but still no civil war
then there was, well, insurrection, but not quite civil war
then there was, well, civil war and "al Qaeda"
all through this, there has been no Iraqi oil on the market, fueling the greatest profits in all the long, sick history of capitalism sucking the people dry
anyone who still claims to be a republican is either mentally ill or a criminal or both
