An Inconvenient Truth Scores Two Oscar Nominations!
Edited on Tue Jan-23-07 12:24 PM by RestoreGore
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070123/ap_en_mo/gore_oscar_nomination_2

One for best documentary, and one for original song, " I Need To Wake Up" by Melissa Etheridge, which is a great song. Both nominations are so well deserved, and I am SO happy for all involved in this film and thank them so much for bringing this crisis to the consciousness of the world.

I hope this will be a catalyst for a global shift in how we do business, how we relate to our Earth, and how we respect it as well as working to address this most daunting challenge that is totally within our abilities to mitigate if we act now... and we must act now. This movie is in no uncertain terms OUR wake up call.

And also, THANK YOU to a man I love and respect very much, Al Gore. You are THE environmental leader of our times at a time when your place in history is exactly where you are, and thank you for clarifying that this is not a political but a moral and spiritual issue. Hopefully those who continue to only use this movie as a springboard for their own agendas will see that as well.

I still can't watch it without tearing up because the words are so relevant.

2. Oh, and Mr. Gore, I'm Waiting For The Sequel
Edited on Tue Jan-23-07 12:10 PM by RestoreGore
Please make a sequel to AIT to show changes good or bad regarding effects and progress since AIT was released, and to showcase activists who are taking this crisis to heart and working on real solutions to solve it. I think that would inspire even more people to become involved in the grassroots movement you have begun. You have so many options open to you now with your resources, businesses, and above all, your freedom. Please give it a thought!

22. yes -- particularly the "wedge" diagram with the emission reductions
Dr. Pacala did appear in a BBC TV show with Sir David Attenborough, to elaborate on the concept (I'm screening part of that as a follow-up to AIT, in the global warming policy class I'm helping teach this term). But it would be good to hear more on this, especially with updated examples!

One of the climatology profs at my university had a public lecture with some upcoming highlights from the IPCC report, and they had to turn away 300 people for lack of space ... I suspect this wouldn't have happened without the success of AIT last year.

25. How about "An Undeniable Truth"?
I agree with you about the need for some kind of a sequel.

It could include the following:

1. Updated stats and facts about world weather in 2006 (hottest year ever in Europe)

2. Filmed evidence of the impact on polar bears of early springs, late winters and ice-cap disintregration in the arctic. (I saw some amazing images on the BBC).

3. More info about where all the CO2 is coming from. Stats and facts about increasing aircraft and motor vehicle use during the past 100 years. Stats and facts about oil consumption and energy consumption during the past 100 years.

4. Looking at why cars sold overseas get better mileage than cars sold in the US - by the same car manufacturers!

5. Looking at the price of gasoline in different countries, and how it is cheaper now than it was 30 years ago, if you take inflation into account.

6. Practical actions that people can take in their daily lives, in the way they get around and making their homes more energy-efficient.

Maybe it doesn't have to be a movie for theaters. Maybe it could be a mini-series on national TV (also released on MP4 podcasts and on DVD)?

I will be sending this to Mr. Gore in Nashville around the time of his birthday. I am hoping to get more signatures to show him that we out here with him support his endeavors with no other motivations attached to that support except for our deep love and respect for our planet, and our gratitude for his unwavering passion and conviction in doing what is morally right.

to what Bush will receive tonight and for the rest of his term.

10. I Know I'm Going To Cry
I already did today...So much emotion built up in me for all of these years... to see him finally getting this message out where it should have been when Earth In The Balance was published is so wonderful, and he and the producers of this film have done a great service to our world which is primary.

18.  No he shouldn't
And he would never do something that tacky and selfish. This isn't about him as he has stated himself, this is about a crisis that today is affecting real people's lives. That takes precedence over any announcement like that, and besides it will not be him accepting the award should it win, it will be the producers and the director. He may be asked to go up on stage with them, but time constraints will only allow for thank yous as it should be.

20. "Jesus Camp" is very good — and especially fascinating because of Ted Haggard,
who is featured in the film. "Iraq in Fragments" is also wonderful.

But he'll be up on stage with them, I'm sure.

24. Excellent!
I already posted my thoughts about the movie on another thread yesterday (Tuesday). But I can't seem to find it anwhere. Does anyone have the link? I think it was NYCGirl who broke this news here on DU - but maybe I am confused (it wouldn't be the first time!) ;-)

I sure hope RestoreGore won't mind me posting this:
