So...how's everyone feeling today?
Bush = 35% = Nixon.

To be spoken around 9pm EST tonight: "Madame Speaker...the President of the United States!"

Attorneys for former White House aide ``Scooter'' Libby said Tuesday that Bush administration officials tried to blame him for the leak of a CIA operative's name to cover up for Bush political adviser Karl Rove's own disclosures. Attorney Theodore Wells, in the opening statements of I. Lewis Libby's perjury trial, said Libby went to Vice President Dick Cheney in 2003 and complained that the White House was subtly blaming him for leaking Valerie Plame's identity to columnist Robert Novak. ``They're trying to set me up. They want me to be the sacrificial lamb,'' Wells said, recalling the conversation between Libby and Cheney. ``I will not be sacrificed so Karl Rove can be protected.''

15. I was glad
to quote from your 12-30-03 "Bush's Worst Enemy" in my essay today. I considered both "Fair Game" from 10-6-03, and "Memo to Central Intelligence Agency" from 10-24-03. As many DUers know, these two are found in the bibliography of Ambassador Wilson's book. But the 12-30 one seemed appropriate, considering that on that date, Mr. Fitzgerald took over the Plame investigation, and I joined DU. Good things do happen in 3's!

3. The saying goes...
That there is no honor among thieves. I predict Libby will sing to high heaven to avoid any serious jail time. If he does, it may be bye bye Rove.

What are your feelings about any drastic changes in personnel or starting another war to shift focus away from low poll numbers and the sense of urgency with the Libby case starting to make waves? I don't think that scooter will go down for dick or rover.

14. Feeling confused
It's been reported that Libby's defense will be lack of memory due to the burden of his work load. Yet, his defense team seem to be mentioning prior conversations between Libby and Cheney that would tend to fix events in a person's mind. If Libby went to the Vice President in 2003 and complained about being taken for a sacrificial lamb, that's a pretty dramatic moment in my opinion and it would suggest that all matters concerning Plame would have become prominent in Libby's mind. I'm not sure how mentioning this conversation in the defense's opening statement helps Libby in insisting that the details of the Plame affair were clouded in his mind by the passage of time and overwork.

22. better. like the news...

in fact, I feel like singing:
If I had a hammer
I'd hammer in the morning
I'd hammer in the evening ... all over this land,
I'd hammer out danger
I'd hammer out a warning
I'd hammer out love between all of my brothers and my sisters
All over this land.

If I had a bell
I'd ring it in the morning
I'd ring it in the evening ... all over this land,
I'd ring out danger
I'd ring out a warning
I'd ring out love between all of my brothers and my sisters
All over this land.

If I had a song
I'd sing it in the morning
I'd sing it in the evening ... all over this world,
I'd sing out danger
I'd sing out a warning
I'd sing out love between all of my brothers and my sisters
All over this land.

If I've got a hammer
And I've got a bell
And I've got a song to sing ... all over this land,
It's a hammer of justice
It's a bell of freedom
It's a song about love between all of my brothers and my sisters
All over this land.

Here's the "hammer" on my most-wanted list:

26. Americans and Iraqis are dying violently in Iraq today.
So, no matter how much it appears things are going well here, in the good old USA, I won't be feeling very good until this illegal war is ended and the guilty perpetrators of it are brought to justice.

And, since I am in my mid-sixties, I don't expect to ever feel right about it.

Love your sig line!! Is there a Mrs. Speedoo? LOL! I am sometimes too solemn about our troops, as I have a grandaughter going to Kuwait as a Navy Corpsman, in mid Feb. and a Grandson in the Airforce (still stateside) but I've learned to get "my jollys" where and when I can. This is TOO GOOD to not enjoy a little bit of revenge, no???

and do you remember suggesting that we visualize this SOTU with Mdm Speaker seated next to an uncomfortable looking VP. . .?

Look what evolved from that suggestion.

Completely worn down and in need of a recharge and I have no idea when or how I'm going to get one.

I will smile tonight when I hear "Madame Speaker...", but after that I'm turning it off. I can't listen to the pretzeldent...it makes my brain hurt.

32. Feeling Fabulous!!! I also like this view of tonight:
When George W. Bush takes the podium in the House tonight, he will peer into an audience of scowling, hostile faces. He will see lawmakers made bitter by the failure of his Iraq gambit, and by his call to risk compounding that failure by adding more U.S. troops to the lethal sectarian stew in Baghdad. He will see members of both the House and the Senate seething over his miscalculations, his six years of contempt for the Congress and his legacy of debt, bloated government and partisan animosity.

Then he'll look at the Democrats, who will be smiling.
