And if that's the case, then it's already in the works. They know that we have the early momentum and people are sick of the current cast of characters running the country. With approval rating so low, they need to shake things up and this would be the perfect place to start.

Cheney resigns, Bush appoints McCain or Guilliani to the position in order to catapult their chances in 2008. They stick close to the Bush agenda, but they are framed as an outsider or someone here to "clean up the mess". In the lead up to 2008, they use it as a rallying call to get the turnout up for their chosen replacement V.P. Everything from here to election day 08' would be calculated and scripted with this in mind - and we would see the replacement V.P. take center stage on every major and minor policy issue from here on out.

Mark my words. They are too crooked to not turn this bad news into their best chance in 08.

45. I don't think being attached to the administration is a wise move for those

who want to have a political future at this point :) Even if someone were to come in as an outsider attempting to clean it up, success would depend on an ability to actually improve our situation, which I think is a pretty tall order at this point. And if things do improve, the dems would make it difficult (though I suppose it wouldn't be impossible) to convince the country that it was an appointee, rather than the democratic majority (that the public, themselves, swept into power) responsible for the improvement. :)

I just can't hold my breathe when it comes to dealing with Neo-Cons in power. They are experts at spin and this would be a golden opportunity to put a shine on the turds that they want to thrust into the executive branch in 2008. I can just imagine them painting Guilliani as the answer to all of the current problems and letting him take the lead on most of the issues between now and 2008. At this point, Chimpy is a lame duck so they have to groom someone to take control because we know its not going to be Cheney at this stage.

Cheney resigns, bush picks McCain as VP, bush pardons Cheney, bush resigns when impeachment seems imminent (dems will impeach him for multiple felonies and abuse of power, repugs will impeach him in a desperate attempt to save their own asses and their party), McCain picks Lieberman as his VP. Before bush resigns, of course, he make sure McCain will pardon him. McCain and Lieberman will run in 08 as the clean, honorable men who rode in on their white horses to save the nation.
