1. He's deluding himself. It's tragic that this fine warrior did NOT retire.
Much like many recently retired Generals.

I'm very disappointed because General Patraeus is NOT IMO "Keeping it Real."

Northern Iraq (where he trained Iraqis and completed the lion's share of his previous tours) is NOT the same as the rest of the Country.

IF we could have secured the Country with at least 350,000 boots on the ground and cloned General Petraesus's "can do genius" ten-fold, we MIGHT have been successful *at the onset.*

Now, all but koolaid drinkers KNOW that we have already lost. Remember, when you've lost the battle for the hearts and minds of the people, it's time to pack up and depart. :(

Again, it's too late. We can only hope that Petraeus realizes the forgoing fact sooner rather than later.

6. No, when you get to General Officer ranks, you also acquisition the
ability to speak freely. To actually analyze the Operations Plans and ADVISE the clueless civilians. The Good General, by not resigning (right into retirement) is living a delusion. May he soon wake-up and retire. :(

3. Isn't this the same....
....General who was resposible for the training of the current crop of Iraqi military and security forces?

And now they want him in charge of everything?

That's right keep throwing gasoline on the fire, eventually it will burn itself out, maybe!!!!

4. Oh, he's not new to the game of Iraq - he's a game player

Also, Petraeus participated in the initial invasion of Iraq as the commander of the 101st Airborne Division.
