“Sure, I voted for Bush, and don’t like him now, but (insert personal problem here)”

So, how many of you have experienced this lately?

I have a freeper relative who supported Bush from Day One who now doesn’t like him. I’ve had go-rounds with her in our political discussions (Election 2000, WMDs, torture, Iraq/Saddam, 9/11, etc.). We disagreed on everything. Recently, however, she had the audacity to announce to me that she didn’t like Bush. I screamed, “BUT YOU VOTED FOR HIM!!!” “I know,” she says, “but that was before I knew how bad he was…” Several times, I've attempted to engage her in discussion to discover just why she believed the way she did when she “liked” him, but she'll say “Oh, well, I have other things to worry about…” implying she has neither the time or inclination to wonder about why she used to believe the way she did. Just as soon as a political discussion begins, she ends it with something like, “I don’t want to discuss that with you, I’ve got too many other, more important, things to think about” and begins to tell me about some crisis in her life. I wonder if this is her way to avoid admitting to herself that she helped create the ongoing horror and disaster by voting for and supporting this SOB/POS.

Have you experienced this same phenomena?

When they have to explain their bat-shit crazy support for Bush, they first try to use CorpMedia soundbites, then, failing that, pull out the ol' WWJATD "argument."

For example:
"Saddam had WMDs"
"No, he didn't"
"Yes, he did. It was on the news"
"Intelligence agencies, including individuals with a lot more knowledge of this than FOX said he didn't"
"But he did"
"Where are they? We didn't find any after we invaded"
"He snuck them out of Iraq"
"Where to?"
"He sent them to Syria"
"Where's the evidence? We have billions of $$$ in spy satellites and intel technology but not one photo of Saddam trucking a million pounds of chemicals out of Iraq?"

I wouldn't give her a real hard time about it. I would approach it as an educational opportunity. Just throw little tid-bits her way like "On Olbermann the other night" or some various right-wing hypocrisy.

3. This is where the power of the media protection of Bush comes into play.

Their job for their paymasters was to protect Bush through the 2004 election. Corpmedia protected him even from the 9-11 report which they gave a negligible amount of airtime.

Media protection was key - keeping real info away from the average, casual voter.

The media most Americans get their news from has covered *'s ass and protected his misadministration almost from day one. And there is nothing to hold them accountable. They do what they want to do, report what they want to report, when they want to report it, and anything embarrassing gets swept under the rug.

Now that more and more of the crap about Bush is coming out, his poll numbers are dropping. They are now where they should have been several years ago.

It's time all of them be held accountable for their actions, and it's time Congress stopped giving him a get out of jail free card.

4. Haven't had any personal experiences

because I tend to be loud and rude and after the shit I took in 02 and 03 having my patriotism questioned amongst other things I don't let the motherfuckers get a word in edge wise, but I have noticed that the letters to the editor in papers in Gulfport and New Orleans are about three to one against bush.

And I just truly love the latest tactic. "Where is the dems plan for Iraq? Fuck that. We shouldn't have gone in the first place. Ole Colin Powell said it, you break it, you own it. Dems didn't break it. And "conservatives" are too fucking proud to surrender to victory and make things right.

7. For most people it's just like jr. high school all over again.

Chimpy *used* to be perceived as being "popular." It was "cool" to support the pretzeldent. But the BMOC is no longer that big. He ain't "cool," and so all the little follower kids don't want to admit they used to like him.

13. Not my extreme conservative family, they still love Bush

I live with a bunch of Bush supporters/Republicans, my dad is especially an extreme conservative. They still aren't saying that they don't like Bush, though my mom doesn't like the war in Iraq, and my younger brother disagrees with their opposition to gay rights/marriage.

My grandparents and their friends though seem to all be against Bush and ready to vote democratic in 08.
