I'd like to post a Thank You To the MN Tax Payers League!
For the the fine job they have done in defeating state transportation bills.

And the nice rollover move, while the state force fed us a new twins stadium.

Rome is falling......

1. I can't wait for that stadium to open.
In 2015, people won't remember that they got taxed an extra 3 cents per $20 but they will remember that stadium that brings 40,000 people down town 81 times a year.

5. and the metrodome couldn't serve
the same purpose?

How about fixing the essentials (like bridges?) before we play ball?

13. Many times.
I've been to a few Saint's games too. I've played ball with my kids at the park. Baseball can be played and enjoyed anywhere.

Our Politicians have confused our priorites. It seems you have too.

15. It comes with being a sports fan I guess.
Also a PSA...if you have a sore neck and you want to go to Twins game, DONT! Turning you head to the side for 3 hours won't help the neck.

Just askin'...

How often do you get 40,000 people at Twins game?
They'll be whining they need a new stadium with a retractable roof after they play their first April in this one. And, I've heard that this site is so small that right field will be so small that a line will be painted on the wall to indicate what makes a home run - I really hope that's not true because it's just another indication of what a half-assed deal this is.

12. Not too often.
Who wants to spend a great summer evening in that dump that is the metrodom? Also, I can think of at least 10 stadiums that have a homerun line on a wall.

14. I'm a sports fan
I'm a sports fan. I'm a sports journalist.

But just once, I'd like to see a city say NO!

NO! We will not pay for a new stadium at the expense of the taxpayers....many of whom can no longer get tickets to see these teams play.

Say what you want about NASCAR, but those guys finance the track projects themselves!

4. It's not a zero-sum game.
Comparing the stadium funding with transportation funding is foolish.

8. Not entirely foolish...
...it may be comparing apples and oranges, but it does indicate the screwed up priorities that the elite have.

And WTF is it with all these "Taxpayers" leagues anyway? They don't represent me. They don't speak for me.

We need some truth in advertising.

10. If one is for a stadium AND infrastructure development,
does that make one "elite"?

9. Need vs. Want
there is no comparison. The Twins don't need a new stadium. We need safe roads. Defering maintenace on bridges is foolish. Building Stadiums with tax dollars for Multi-Millionaires is foolish.

11. But the money comes from different places.
It's not like the stadium money was going to go to the infrastructure development.

24. Nonsense, it all comes from the same place in the end
The taxpayer's wallet. Doesn't matter whether it's labeled county, state or federal tax. There's a limit to how much people can be taxed. And it says something when a state will do an end-run to make sure a county is permitted to force its taxpayers to fund two-thirds of a new stadium while not thinking it's so important to force them to pay taxes toward transportation repair.

And don't start up with the "it's all the feds' fault" thing either. It's not. It's partly their fault, yes, but not all.

21. In Seattle we just built two, one for the Mariners
in which the taxpayers said no, but the state did anyway, the other for the Seahawks, which is owned by the 2nd or third richest man in America depending on the day, and some suspect did not even contributed a dime, to help.
