Freepers, if we need to keep illegals out to save American jobs,
how come y'all are for offshoring?

Especially tech jobs to countries with the highest piracy rates? Do we award criminals? According to you lot, no we don't.

Sorry to be confused.

2. I'll be very disappointed
if our Congress and Senate doesn't address this and other blue collar issues.

4. I care
and I'm retired. Now that we control the Congress, maybe we can pass some laws that penalize companies which ship our jobs overseas. After all, if we ordinary citizens are supposed to be patriotic, and act in the best interests of our country, shouldn't corporations be required to do the same?

Corporate profits and wages paid to middle income Americans are two different things. We also need to think much more about how to enable low wage earning citizens in being able to get jobs which pay more. That's probably where illegal immigration comes into play, because it's not illegal immigrants who are taking the high-tech jobs. They are taking the jobs which are mostly labor intensive, but people doing hard physical labor should be paid a living wage, as well.

It is immoral for people who word hard to provide for their families to be paid wages which are at, or below, the poverty level. In a country as rich as ours, the solution is to make sure that the classes which create the profits, share in the benefits, too.

6. or at least allow the cost of living to match the wages.
NOBODY wants to work at $2/day when the cost of living is (give or take) $32/day.

Indians and others can happily work at $2 per day. Their cost of living happens to be much lower.

It is NOT globalization when Americans are told they aren't qualified because they don't want to work for wages "generously" offered. Now consider those wages are not sustainable for a family (and in some cases an individual).

The cost of living MUST be addressed along with every other factor or else "globalization" is a sham.

10. I agree
If somebody works a day, the wages they earn should be at a minimum, able to pay for a day's expenses. Why should CEOs get salaries and benefits enough to support thousands of ordinary workers?

In case you hadn't noticed, it's difficult to emigrate to other countries. When will you want to illegally move to another country and do you think they'll be any better toward you?

Do you think the US being so "liberal" in opening up its doors will be repeated by other countries around the world? In this day and age, especially given the US's less-than-favorable view in the world?

The reason Bush at one point wanted to change the law is so "guest workers" could be made legal, get paid the pittance wages his corporate lackies want, which in turn affects YOUR wages too. As one lawyer friend I know said, "it's a race to the bottom". And he's a Democrat too so shove your not-yet-stated slandering of him back where it came from.

It's not about the people.

It's about the money.

Under the guise of being for the people.

As some DUers would say, "A Rovian plot".

It seems an easy enough concept to understand.

Now if you can explain the non-sequiturs our leaders are presenting in a civilized, manner - go ahead. Right now, you're not winning any brownie points by calling me a freeper in a lame one-liner. (How about illegals being made legal and being paid the same wages and bennies as the rest of us? If that was the case, I wouldn't have a case to speak of objection. Pity reality showed itself a long time ago, you're barkin' up the wrong tree.)

12. illegal immigrants become slaves
They are entirely beholden to the law-breaking, immoral companies that hire and abuse them. I don't see how anyone can support that. It's a crime against the immigrants, and it's a crime for what it does to labor.

All that Kumbaya bullshit about welcome to America/give them an opportunity/where did your people come from?/blah blah blah is nothing but another attempt to break the back of American Labor even more

15. Bingo.
It is all about ruining Labor. Freepers are the ones who drool and get all orgasmic over the profits reaped by offshoring (though will those countries they are helping treat them nicely in the end? I doubt it, they are rendering themselves obsolete too... if it was real globalization, we'd see a lot of other things changed as well. And I've spoken of some of them before (e.g. cost of living dropped to match, but that would wreck their big profit margins too.)).

And in my OP I was asking why is one being done "to protect jobs" while we're also doing something that's utterly contradictory? The non-sequitur that everyone I talked to at work thought "Wow, that is an intersting thought". But some on DU here decided to dig up the old news that never was and resume the usual "he's a freeper" garbage talk or find empty words to say offshoring is good yet provide nothing of substance to back up their claims, prompting others to ask "cite proof". I'm sorry people cannot think outside their box, though I don't blame them for being in it... :sigh:

The last few years PROVE it is NOT about welcoming people. How can't they see that? Especially when "temporary worker" and "guest worker" have been used time and time again. It's not about people and, fuck it, anybody who thinks it isn't IS a freeper because they seem inclined to call people who spell the obvious out freepers!

(no, they are not freepers, but how the hell does it feel to be called the same thing!?)
