Since I may not Welcome every single new face that joins DU over the next year here is my and DU's "Welcome" thread. We are very excited that you've joined and are participating with vigor and passion. Many people are coming here to get involved in the political process in anticipation of putting Democrats in the White House and Senate. With your help I'm sure we can have an influence on the political process and make a difference for all peoples.

Lots of new faces around lately; Some new ideas which is important. I've noticed at least a dozen people with under a hundred posts and many under 1000.

Anyway a warm DU Welcome and feel free to say hi and a little about yourself if you like. Fellow DUers join in.

BTW if things get heated as they often do take it with a grain of salt.

Whether it means you've been lurking for awhile and just haven't said much, or whether you truly are a new arrival, Welcome! Glad you're here! Now get to work. We have habeas corpus to restore, IMPEACHMENT to promote, a war to end, another war to short-circuit before it starts, and a whole bunch of republi-CON fiends and criminals and liars and cheats and thieves and scoundrels to hold accountable for any number of crimes. High crimes. And misdemeanors. AND we've got a White House to rehabilitate, and majorities to extend and reinforce in both Houses of Congress, not to mention MUSCLE TO FLEX - FURTHER.

One helluva work load there.

Notes to newbies: favorite topics in General Discussion include having your receipt checked by store personnel at places like Circuit City, the need to taser rude kids, public breast feeding, and of course that perennial favorite, why Ralph Nader was right all along.

If that gets too hot for you, I recommend a quick trip to the Lounge to discuss the menu at your favorite Olive Garden, why you like pit bulls above all other breeds, and whether Matcom has changed his underwear recently.

I've been lurking indeed, and have learned to flee to the lounge at times, but have to admit that DU is bay far my favorite place on the internets. GD can be quite intimidating, espacially for an immigrant (though from a country that has legalized abortion, euthanasia, same-sex marriage, marijuana, and prostitution, to name a few differences B-)).

Oh, and about me: as far as I know, I am still the tallest DUer, with the biggest feet (see what the lounge is good for?), and I read about 3 books a week, fiction and non.

Thought I'd share this, since I get asked about this all the time: They are used as synonyms nowadays. More precisely, however, Holland is 2 of the (nowadays 12) provinces of The Netherlands (South-Holland and North-Holland).

Then in November the first in another series, Tales from the Magitech Lounge, will be available too. Just finished the edits for the print version.

Thanks for the warm welcomes. I've lurked a long time, and DU is definitely a sanity saver for someone who lives and works in a very RED area. I no longer feel quite so alone in this part of the world. I spend a great deal of time here every day.
