6. Is there really any point in voting
We can pretty much guess that this bill will be dead before the evening news comes on, and we know that it will be the Republicans along with the assistance of Joementum, who will condemn the military to a living hell.

But, what do they care?

20. Another just-for-show vote
There hasn't been a full effort to get this passed, just as with other votes since we've been in the majority. Looks to me like its just something else to use against the GOP in the 2008 elections.

If it passes, we'll take it, of course. Either way, anyone who votes against it will hear about it later. Much later.

I'd much rather see a full effort to get it passed.

131. They didn't use the media attention they've been getting
All the Dem senators that have been on TV recently could have used their face time to try to gain public support for it, and could have at least tried to bring public pressure on Repubs to vote yes.

As it was, I didn't hear a peep about it in the major media.

Where is the effort to bring public pressure?

If this were a serious effort (other than a few key senators), you'd expect more public appearances and more events to try to bring attention to the issue and try to get the public on board.

I think Webb (and maybe a few others) was serious about it. But from the standpoint of the party, it was not a full team effort at all. Just like the votes last spring.

To the Editor,

Our Republican senators have yet again shown how they “support our troops.” Both Senator Cornyn and Senator Hutchison voted “no” to the Webb-Hagel Amendment today. For those of you who are unaware, this amendment would have assured that:

1. Units and individuals in the Armed Forces be certified as “fully mission capable” 15 days prior to deployment

2. Limits the length of overseas deployments of the Army, Marine Corps and National Guard

3. Establishes a minimum time between deployments for the Army, Marine Corps and National Guard

4. Provides additional appropriations totaling approximately $3.1 billion to reset Army National Guard and Reserve equipment and to address funding shortfalls for Army National Guard training, operations and maintenance

5. Requires the president to report to Congress on the comprehensive diplomatic, political and economic strategy of the U.S. regarding Iraq

Although some Republicans put partisanship aside in the best interest of our military, our senators did not, and the amendment failed 56-3-1.

The time for re-election is not that far away, and I intend to remind these elected officials who really supports the troops. We, as Americans, must hold our elected officials accountable for their actions. My son, and many like him, depend on us to do our civic duty by voting these hypocrites out of office, and putting someone in there who really will support our soldiers and Marines.

109. I hope you point out their hypocrisy_ have my letter written

Although some Republicans put partisanship aside in the best interest of our military, our senators did not, and the amendment failed 56-44.
This is the second time our Senate has tried to get this amendment passed.I find it particularly disturbing that John Cornyn serves on the Senate Armed Services committee, and, according to his resume, has been instrumental in Mental health care and Traumatic Brain injury aid for our active duty and retired troops.Failure to pass this amendment will perpetuate these problems, and shows how important it is for these senators to follow party line, rather than support our troops
.There is an election coming up in 2008.Who are you going to vote for?
