Washington is seriously reviewing plans to bomb not just nuclear sites but oil military &leadership
http://www.counterpunch.org/cohn09252007.html

The Sunday Telegraph reported, "A strike will probably follow a gradual escalation. Over the next few weeks and months the U.S. will build tensions and evidence around Iranian activities in Iraq . . . Under the theory--which is gaining credence in Washington security circles--U.S. action would provoke a major Iranian response, perhaps in the form of moves to cut off Gulf oil supplies, providing a trigger for air strikes against Iran's nuclear facilities and even its armed forces."

Steve Clemons likewise wrote on Salon that David Wurmser, a member of Cheney's national security staff, allegedly discussed convincing Israel to launch a low-yield cruise missile strike against the Natanz nuclear reactor in Iran, to "hopefully" prompt a military reaction by Iran against U.S. forces in Iraq and the Gulf.

Former CIA counter-terrorism chief Vincent Cannistrano, now a security analyst, stated, "The decision to attack was made some time ago. It will be in two stages. If a smoking gun is found in terms of Iranian interference in Iraq, the U.S. will retaliate on a tactical level, and they will strike against military targets. The second part of this is: Bush has made the decision to launch a strategic attack against Iranian nuclear facilities, although not before next year. He has been lining up some Sunni countries for tacit support for his actions."

Patrick Cronin, director of studies at the International Institute for Strategic Studies, concurs. "Washington is seriously reviewing plans to bomb not just nuclear sites, but oil sites, military sites and even leadership targets. The talk is of multiple targets," he said. "In Washington there is very serious discussion that this is a window that has to be looked at seriously because there is only six months to 'do something about Iran' before it will be looked at as a purely political issue."

The United Nations' chief nuclear weapons inspector, Mohamed ElBaradei, warned against an "out of control" drift to war with Iran. "I would not talk about any use of force," he said. "There are rules on how to use force, and I would hope that everybody would have gotten the lesson after the Iraq situation, where 700,000 innocent civilians have lost their lives on the suspicion that a country has nuclear weapons." The UN Charter only permits the use of force in self-defense or with the blessing of the Security Council. "Many of the potential targets are in populated places, endangering civilians both from errant bombs and the possible dispersal of radioactive material," cautioned Peter Galbraith in the New York Review of Books. The failure to protect civilians violates the Geneva Conventions.

Yet Bush continues his march to war. In an end run around the UN Security Council, "Washington and its allies are developing a parallel track to the UN effort in the event that a third resolution ends up only modestly increasing pressure on Iran," according to the Washington Post. "We'll continue on the UN track, but we also have the track of the U.S.-E.U.," a State Department official said.

What do we think Amadinejad and the Iranian military have in mind for the bushits/cmw march to bomb their country? They're not stupid..what will they do? Sit back and be bombed into Oblivian like Iraq? I don't think so..they've seen it done to their neighbor for less provocation more lies.

12. Iranians know the bushits by now..
and they know how the cmw are setting them up and I'm sure bushits are anticipating shit and have Israel line up for something..but what of surprises?

All we knew when Iraq was bombed was that they were going to throw flowers and whatever at the Soldiers..and it turned out to be homemade bombs with no back up plan from the grand rummy.

I don't want the Iranian people to go through this like their neighbors in Iraq have to endure.

War Inches Closer to Iran; U.S. Soldiers Create Military Base on Iraq-Iran Border

Iran's role with the violence in Iraq remains a major preoccupation of the Bush administration, with the U.S. military now building a base, practically within shouting distance of Iran — an extraordinary step to curb what it says is the smuggling of advanced weapons into Iraq.

It will be called Combat Outpost Shocker, and it will hardly come as a pleasant surprise to Iran that the United States will have a new base just 5 miles from their border. Col. Mark Mueller, of the 3rd Infantry Division, said it is the first time the U.S. military will be that close to Iran.

"Obviously, they probably won't be very happy about it," Mueller told ABC's Terry McCarthy.

The Shocker base will be home to about 200 soldiers, as well as to agents from the U.S. Border Patrol

11. My Gut Feeling
Since, over the last few days, the visit of the Iranian President has worked so well for them

in cranking up the public sentiment against Iran, I think there is a good chance that they will speed up the timetable

and strike while the public furor is fresh, so to speak. IOW, strike while the tide is with them.

May the world find a way to live through what is about to happen.

And I, myself, wish I could have done more to stop it.

22. We should all be on the same page on this.
* The Iranian nuclear issue is a boondoggle as obvious and as paper-thin as the WMD issue was with Iraq. Iran has one nuclear plant going online soon which someday may be able to make weapons-grade material. The material for the breeder reactor at Bushehr has yet to arrive and may never arrive, as the Russians are paying more attention to the United States than our press is letting on.

* If you accept the Iranian nuclear issue to be bullshit, then it's not hard to guess what the real reason for an invasion of Iran is: the capture and control of Iranian oil and natural gas reserves, a big hunk of which just so happens to be sitting underneath the Bushehr nuclear plant, on the Persian Gulf coast.

* Again, if you believe the nuclear issue is bullshit, then it stands to reason that the nuclear sites are not a priority target. Just as the US forces rolled past arms depots and potential chemical weapons sites on their way to Baghdad, so too will any actual Iranian WMD sites be ignored during this next war.

* In the end, the only purpose of the airstrikes will be in preparation for an actual invasion of the Persian Gulf Coast, probably investing territory from Basra down to Bushehr, and possibly as far as Bandar-e Abbas beyond the Straight of Hormuz.

Seriously: know your enemy. Your enemy is Dick Cheney, and Cheney doesn't give a flying fuck about whether or not the Iranians have nuclear weapons. Cheney gives a big flying fuck about oil, and the fact that his company hasn't found any decent reserves of new oil anywhere in this millennium save for one place. Want to guess what that one place is?

That's right. It's Bushehr.
