"Hating" Ahmadinejad Does Not Mean You Want To Bomb Iran
I "hate" Pat Buchanan, David Duke, and Fred Phelps but I don't want to bomb Maclean, Virginia, Metarie, Louisiana, or Topeka, Kansas...

"Hating" right wing nut jobs and not wanting to injure or kill them are not mutually exclusive.

2. Fully agree!
I hate Bush and Cheney but I don't want anyone to bomb America. I hated Thatcher and Blair but I never wanted anyone to bomb the UK! I hate the Kaczynskis (sp?), but I don't want anyone to bomb Poland. I hate Putin but I don't want anyone to bomb Russia. I hate the Chinese top leadership but I don't want anyone to bomb China. I hate Mugabe but I don't want anyone to bomb Zimbabwe. Etc.

10. Sadly, that's what happens to people
who have been conquered for centuries. Russians have a long history of "needing" to be protected from the Vikings, Tartars, Germans, French, Swedes, Germans again......

Father/Czar complex coupled with a topography that is vulnerable to attack and all that jazz.

All 'freedom' gave them was crime, inflation, pornography, job insecurity, etc.

Most people don't want the responsibilities that freedom requires of them.

And Russia has a history of collectivism that antedates the October Revolution. It's a country where the weather kills.

36. By that logic, Iranians voted for Ahmadinejad
With a vote count that was probably less fixed than in the US, and an election system overall only slightly less fixed (there, the Mullahs exclude candidates; here money and the media determine who's worthy).

11. The fact that this needs to be said on a liberal board amazes me
I feel as though I have walked into a parallel universe. We have posters "respecting" and defending a guy who's administration hangs gays, beats, arrests or tickets women for showing hair, who denies the holocaust, etc at the same time ripping good liberal Democrats apart, calling them treasonous, betrayers, right wingers, etc.

Bizarro World.

I heard the same crap in 2002.

Why aren't we having a ten minute hate against the saudi arabian government which also has a habit of topping off its gays every now and then, denies women basic human rights, is a little fuzzy on the right of israel to exist, etc. etc. etc. Could it be because we already have their oil safely under our control? Just maybe kinda sorta?

Not hiding the truth does not mean that one has to wade into the War Party Conga Line just in case anyone thought you might approve of the Iranian theocracy.

21. Did I miss something?
Did two senators just propose an authorization to bomb Virginia, Louisiana and Kansas, coming on the heels of an earlier 97-0 vote on language finding that these states harbor terrorists?

Are Buchanan, Duke and Phelps being called EVIL on the front pages of the papers?

Are they being accused of killing U.S. soldiers in the midst of a war?

Is Lousiana firing up its first nuclear reactor? Is this being called a threat to America?

Did the French foreign minister just warn that Kansas is close to being bombed?

Did the President declare Virginia part of a fictional "Axis of Evil"?

And if I didn't miss all that, just what is it about the coordinated government-approved Saddam/Osama-style hate campaign focusing on Ahmadinejad as THE Face of Evil that you are missing?

Is it because

a) he said and supports terrible things?

b) there is a campaign on to justify the intended bombing of his country?

c) the news happens to be covering the visit to New York of a foreign leader (during the week of the UN General Assembly, when dozens of foreign leaders are here)?

d) other.

I believe he's in the news because of b. Do you differ?

31. Are you trying to deny the fact that the Neocon Junta has been thirsting for Iran blood for months?
Are you in denial about the bill in the Senate just these past two days seeking war with Iran?

Are you in denial about Congress' last minute removal of language from legislation that would have prevented the administration from attacking Iran?

Are familiar at all with text, context, propaganda, and the use of the media by government?

Are you in denial about the fact that all of this has happened before with a man named Saddam Hussein and a country the U.S. now occupies called Iraq?

Are you familiar with a phrase often used, "the big picture"?

Are you in denial that the Right Wing and the Neoconservatives are using Ahmedinijad as the poster boy for their next invasion?

Are you in denial of the fact that by joining in that Two Minutes Hate of their poster boy, you are joining their efforts to take the U.S. to war in Iran?

When you join that Two Minutes Hate, do you think the Right Wing, the Military-Industrial-Media complex and the Neoconservatives really give a shit what you also think about war?

You said:

"Are you in denial about Congress' last minute removal of language from legislation that would have prevented the administration from attacking Iran?"

One more time, for those unfamiliar with the Constitution: Bush cannot be prevented from attacking Iran by anything the Congress does.
He has the authority under Article II, Section 2 of the US Constitution and under the War Powers Resolution of 1973.

It's a circular argument... Only Congress can declare war...The president is the Commander in Chief... He can direct the armed forces in any fashion he wants. The Congress can then stop the war by impeaching him or refusing to fund it...

That's my understanding of the separation of powers...

does not mean that you think that everyone who expresses hate for Ahamdinejad wants to bomb Iran. Critical analysis of the intentions of the media and government and being able to realize that the majority of DU posters don't have the same intentions as the media and the government are not mutually exclusive.
