Coming up: Blitzer says CNN "has investigated" the smears against Obama.

Leslie 'Wolf' Blitzer teases the upcoming story by asking incredulously, "Have people been trying to smear Senator Obama with rumors about his past?"

Well, yes, of course they have. But CNN "has investigated" it, and is actually going to set the record straight? (I'm dubious.)

The Corporate Media, such as CNN, usually just lets one side (the freeper wingnut side) scream lies while the Dem side is reduced to saying "That's just not true. Let's look at the facts."

What's up with CNN trying to get to the bottom of the smears? I'm hopeful, but as I said, dubious.

over-easy, approved by the GOP. Wolfie is taking a serious look at schools in Indonesia.

Barack Obama attended a school in Indonesia when he was 6 or 8 years old. I doubt whether Al Qaeda condoned fundamentalism even existed back then. Gimme a break.

9. First you hint at it
then you investigate it to see if " some people " are trying to smear him.
All the time, you're keeping the lie going by giving it "fair and balanced" reporting.
Swiftboating taken to another level.

What a crock of shit. :evilfrown:

15. CNN debunked the whole story.
They really did a good job. They even visited the school Obama went to and said it's nothing like the radical muslim schools that the smear says it is.

18. I mainly heard the first part with Howie Kurtz where he said
that a right-wing rag had made it up, blamed it on Hillary Clinton, and then Fox News repeated it ad naseum.

I'm shocked.

Usually they repeat right-wing drivel and give it equal status as 'the truth' as if facts have a side.

16. Two back to back reports completely debunking this bogus crap
The first was about the rumor itself which was totally unsubstantiated. It tore down the bit that it came from Hillary's camp.

The second went to the actual school itself and the headmaster wasn't happy about this kind of reflection on his school. They have muslims, christians, and buddhists. They teach tolerance and that religion is not a focus of education.

It's actually an upscale school in a wealthier part of the city.

21. One rebuttal isn't enough
It's when they let people go on the air and repeat the smear and conveniently forget the truth they reported a week or month before. That's how they're complicit.

25. Leslie Wolf Blitzer seemed as incredulous as I was.

Wolf: "We actually have a reporter on the ground in Indonesia? And we are going to investigate whether this rumor is true or just a smear?"

In his voice there was a certain :wtf:

it's their way of "taking responsibility". Gee, didn't the same thing happen to Dan Rather? Didn't Fox demand an apology from Rather?

31. Over a year of this crap to go. Imagine their investigative budget..
..after all is said and done?

If they keep it going, CNN will spend like $2 billion on sending their journalists to debunk right-wing slanders before the 2008 election.

33. No
When Gore and Kerry ignored the smears based on that premise it stuck. It's a good thing that CNN is debunking untruths, especially when they point out that FOX 'reported' it and in the next breath stated, 'we at CNN, journalists, we are supposed to check facts before we report stories'. It was a nice yet classy dig at those FOX low-roaders.

My point was, let's not depend on CNN to dig up the truth on all the smears that are about to drown the Democratic candidates.
