Man Dies in Custody at Canadian Airport
Man Dies in Custody at Canadian Airport

A man who acted erratically after arriving at Vancouver International Airport early Sunday died after police used a Taser on him. (Oct. 14)

1. Am I The Only One Who Thinks Flying Is Becoming Dangerous?
I guess nowadays, you risk your life when you try to get on a plane.

2. Add that to the LONG death list of the "less than lethal" Taser.

3. Less lethal than...
What the fuck it it with people like you who seem to think that cops should not protect themselves (or for that matter the general public) if their protective actions might harm or kill the person acting threateningly.

Apparently there should be no attempt to restrain a person who's mental state puts them "beyond restraint", in case, in their struggles, they contribute to their own injuries, which would of course be entirely the fault of the police regardless. It would seem that they are to be permitted to run amok, destroying property and injuring anyone unable to get out of their way.

If someone acts out in a manner that potentially might cause injury, then they SHOULD be restrained or neutralised by any means necessary. It doesn't matter if they have the IQ of a rock; mental or substance use issues; or just a bloody foul temper. Whatever means necessary. Even if that means is a bullet to the head. If it's necessary it should be done. And done without the recriminations of the likes of you.

11. Why shouldn't I take the odd leap.
In this particular case I knew the ground was fairly stable on the other side.

A good many folks here have an unreasonable hatred of cops. When there is a death or injury in custody, they come boiling out of the woodwork to accuse without evidence and convict without proof.

14. You are projecting your perceptions on to me.
Your assumption is exactly that: an assumption.

You assume I hate cops.

You are wrong.

I hate Taser International. They sell a product, promote it, create financial incentives for Police Departments to use them excessively.

The product is dangerous and obviously MUCH more than "Less" than lethal.

You are on your soapbox arguing about a completely different aspect of some other argument of which I did not bring up.

It's bullshit, and that my friend, is why you should be careful before you take the "odd leap".

16. Fair enough. If you're not amongst the particular crowd I was addressing...
...Then you have my apologies.

As for Taser International...

Do you believe the 5 vitamins and minerals in Froot Loops make them healthy? Save at least a little of your contempt for the idiots who believe the marketing hype or profess to.

They're a company and they market their product. So what? GM does that too. And their product kills more in a month than Tasers have killed since their introduction.

A taser is NOT lethal in the vast majority of circumstances. It MAY under some circumstances trigger a preexisting condition that results in death.

Does anyone have a comparison between nightsticks and tasers for which does more damage, kills more often? Taser vs. choke/strangle holds?

Any submission technique whatsoever, is going to result in some fatalities when used against unwilling/non-cooperative subjects.

I don't actually like tasers. But I deplore more the social conditions that make their use attractive. And fixing that particular problem my friend is NOT the remit of the police or of Taser International.

6. Jeez! I'm guilty of "acting erratically "
when I'm plugged into my ipod and jigging around to a tune that only I can hear. I hope I don't scare any cops. .

15. Just act like a sheep and you will be all right
This is EXACTLY what is wrong with this country. "Be obedient (like a good doggie)" PUKE. No the problem is that we are TOO obedient and passive. When they treat people "behaving erratically" just like criminals without trying to figure out WHY they are doing it, then we are all doomed.

13. OMG, talk about One flew over the Cukoos Nest mentality at airports
now. That woman in Arizona was killed by security for losing it, and now this man in Vancouver. It's getting to the point now where passengers feel like they're waiting at a detention center or high security prison instead of an airport with everything they have to endure for security.
Say or do something out of the ordinary at the terminal or on a flight, and you'll be "silenced"
