GOP, batten down the hatches: A huge storm is coming
http://www.nydailynews.com/opinions/2007/10/15/2007-10-15_gop_batten_down_the_hatches_a_huge_storm.html

We can see in hindsight how incumbent parties get blamed and creamed in federal elections, as Republicans did in 1932 during the Depression and Democrats did in 1994 after the failure of health care. We rarely see disaster in advance. But with 13 months to go, current trend lines indicate that a perfect storm is gathering force and will likely decimate Republican strength in federal and state races in November 2008.

Not one but four separate seismic events together will - short of another terrorist attack or a new war against Iran - alter the electoral terrain of America.

Iraq. Consider the numbers: Opinion polls show that consistent majorities of 70% want the war to end soon and 60% believe Bush misled us into this conflict. When asked which party can best handle Iraq, it was Democrats by 49% to 34% in the most recent ABC News/Washington Post poll. This is undeniably the Republicans' war.

What exactly can GOP candidates say next fall in the face of no WMD, no link between Saddam and 9/11, no flowers for "liberators," nearly 5million Iraqis displaced, tens of thousands of American dead or wounded as well as some 100,000 Iraqis killed - not to mention an increase in terrorism worldwide? "Give us more time" for a war that's lasted longer than World War II?

3. There's only one politician who will drag them out of their houses to vote
and that's Hillary Clinton.

4. I'd take half of his projected gains
meaning 3-4 in the Senate and 24-26 in the House.

But, the SCHIP veto is a big one, on top of a lot of the other crap they have going on...

5. WOW, IS THAT FIRST SENTENCE INCREDIBLY TELLING
Republicans got creamed in the 30's because they fucked up our economy and Democrats got creamed in the 90's because they failed in forwarding health care. It is so easy to define the good guys and the bad guys in American Politics.

6. I don't believe another terror attack would save their ass
I think it would do just the opposite, they're the ones who have been screaming about keeping America safe, another attack especially a massive attack would just underscore their incompetence.

I don't believe in any type of attack on Iran, we've been hearing it for damn near three years now, and it hasn't happened, further more I believe the military won't let it happen. They've been chewed up and spit out by people who were supposed to be their best buddy. Fool me once.

8. Read Directive 51.
I think their plan is to declare Martial Law after their next pre-planned terrorist attack.

I know this is from WND, but that is what makes this so significant. Corsi was part of the Swiftboat team that went after John Kerry. Just read what he thinks about Directive 51:

WND Exclusive Commentary Bush makes power grab
Posted: May 23, 2007

President Bush, without so much as issuing a press statement, on May 9 signed a directive that granted near dictatorial powers to the office of the president in the event of a national emergency declared by the president.

The "National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive," with the dual designation of NSPD-51, as a National Security Presidential Directive, and HSPD-20, as a Homeland Security Presidential Directive, establishes under the office of president a new National Continuity Coordinator.

That job, as the document describes, is to make plans for "National Essential Functions" of all federal, state, local, territorial, and tribal governments, as well as private sector organizations to continue functioning under the president's directives in the event of a national emergency.

The directive loosely defines "catastrophic emergency" as "any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government functions." <snip>

7. 'short of another terrorist attack or a new war against Iran'
and THAT right there is what they are ALL banking on! There WILL BE a terrorist attack and/or a new war in Iran....that's their plan on how to stay in power because the American people don't like to switch parties during war time....or so they say.:eyes: Why else would the repukes be backing this illegal invasion of Iraq still? Why else would they support another invasion into Iran? Why else have our borders and ports not been secured? It's all part of their sick plan to remain in power. It's the only way and they know it.

10. I believe you're right
That phrase reminds me of the statement in PNAC that a new Pearl Harbor was needed to implement their plan. History will very likely repeat itself in that what they need will indeed take place.
