Subpoena indicates probe of Lewis is 'back on,' experts say

This week's subpoena of a House aide who worked closely with Rep. Jerry Lewis represents the first known movement in the long-idle investigation into the Inland lawmaker's dealings with lobbyists.

The subpoena could serve as evidence that new blood in the U.S. attorneys' Los Angeles office has revived the case, experts said.

Issued by a federal grand jury in Los Angeles, the subpoena seeks both documents and testimony from Greg Lankler, who worked under Lewis on the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, according to an internal memo issued by House attorneys handling the matter.

"It is our understanding that the subpoena relates to the investigation of Congressman Jerry Lewis," House Counsel officials wrote.

Appropriations Committee spokeswoman Kirsten Brost confirmed that Lankler had been subpoenaed. It's not clear, though, what information investigators want from Lankler.

Neither Lankler nor the House attorneys returned calls seeking comment.

3. yes. Debra Yang was the attorney investigating Lewis. After a year long investigation, she was

put on the list of attorneys to be fired. Lewis' defense team hired her on at a million plus a year salary. Of course, they re saying that she won't participate in the defense. But she was hired by his defense firm, and she of course, has all the knowledge of the investigation. That being the case, Lewis already knows exactly what information they have or don't have. He already bought his freedom.

Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) has raised questions about Yang's departure in light of the subsequent firing of seven US Attorneys. Yang's office had opened an investigation into the relationship between Rep. Jerry Lewis (R-CA) and a lobbyist five months before she left to join the law firm that represented Rep. 5. There sure is. That is the firm defending Lewis, who she was investigating for one year.

6. It really should be illegal. She worked for our government investigating corruption, then took a job

with the corrupt investigated. (SHe only took a job with his law firm, and promises not to divulge her information to that legal team, of course.)

I have not seen subpoena's actually accomplishing anything these days and I cannot understand how they continue to ignore them without fear of prosecution?
