I am so tired of being angry!!!
Edited on Mon Oct-15-07 02:15 PM by Greylyn58
This is an open letter to all the men and women who currently hold positions of power in the US Congress. It is especially aimed at members of the Democratic Party, many of whom owe their current seats to the November 2006 elections. I’ve always held a sneaking suspicion that some of you come to the Democratic Underground to get a feel for our mood. Well...you're about to get mine. Please feel free to pass it on to everyone else.

Since the beginning of the year, the Democratic majority has been able to accomplish a few good things, but have sidestepped, caved or otherwise ignored the two major items that we, the voters, told you we wanted.

When we, the people of this country voted you into power, it was with the clear understanding that we wanted two major things accomplished. One was we wanted out of Iraq. The troops must be brought home. We wanted no more of our young men and women dying for this pointless, idiotic war. We wanted no more blood spilt over a lie.

The second thing we wanted was Bush and Cheney brought to justice, impeached for the high crimes and misdemeanors committed against this country. For the last six years, we have endured:

Bush and his cabal demolishing our economy.
The looting of our treasury for his war.
Watched as the price of basic necessities rose in price.
Bush giving tax cuts to the rich in a time of war.
Wire taps on our phones, our e-mails being read, snooping into every aspect of our lives, all in the name of flushing out supposed terrorists.

We complained as Bush:

Tried to privatize Social Security.
Let corporations take good jobs out of the country.
Commuted the sentence of Scooter Libby, even though he once said he would hold those who released the name of Valerie Plame--a CIA operative--accountable.
Shredded the very essence of our beloved Constitution.
Suspended Habeas Corpus against supposed terrorists, in effect taking that right away from all of us.
Continued an illegal war in which close to four thousand of our fellow Americans have died.
Stood by while thousands of our fellow citizens fought for their lives in the worst natural disaster we’ve ever seen, only to congratulate the head of FEMA for “doing a heck of job!”

I realize I’m glossing over innumerable other crimes this administration has committed, but there have been so many that it makes my head hurt just trying to remember them all. In addition, as every day goes by, new crimes are being discovered. It just never ends with this man or his people.

Which brings me to the main reason I’m writing this; I’m tired. Tired of being angry. Tired of the daily stupidity of Bush and everyone connected to him. Tired of the queasy, burning feeling in my stomach that happens every day after reading of some new outrage committed by this administration and, everyone connected to it.

It’s time to end this feeling.

I use to be a happy person. I had a decent job and life. I was someone who loved her country and was mostly proud of the good things America did here and around the world. That being said, I’m not so naive as to think we had a perfect country, but I’ve always felt that with a bit of effort, we could change any wrongs and make them right.

Well, my life has changed a lot over the last six years. I no longer feel that way. I no longer recognize the America I live in.

We need leaders in Washington now more than any other time in our history. So once again, I say to my elected officials; I’m tired and damned angry. Angry enough to make every Democrat in Washington a promise. If you, our current leaders, continue to ignore us—to disregard the very people who put you where you are today; if you can’t or won’t do what it needed to fix the ills plaguing this nation, I and others like me will elect people who will. We will make sure your time in office is a short one.

Of that, you can be sure. I and every other angry voter promise!

1. your right
I'm getting sick and tired of electing the dems in '06 to have them "do something" then when they don't we just hear excuses of "they can't do anything" at least we have a majority, since when do we sell our principles for a majority of people who don't do squat, yes yes they have passed some legislation that would help some a little but for every one step forward they take two steps back.

14. I agree. Something good happens to make it past Bush's veto pen
but the next 3 or 4 items knock us right back even further.

It sucks!!!

3. They have their own agendas to worry about, we dont matter to them.
They know that all they have to do is have an enemy (republicans) and a media to support the candidate they want and the sheeple will follow and support their agenda once again like we do every election. After the Dems take over and we see no real change to our country, the republicans will do something to pump up their base and give them an enemy that hasn't produced (democrats) and we will keep playing their political games. That is unless we see through the bullshit and charades and vote for someone that will represent us and not the corrupt system and their agenda. S far from what I see and hear, they are winning once again and we will ignore the ones they want us to ignore. I feel very confident in voting Kucinich because he IS standing out on a limb and doing what the others wont ( not that they cant but they are choosing not to ), he is speaking out for the people. Just look at it, the patriot act, the military commissions act and suspension of Habeas corpus, impeachment, hunt oil deal and the privatization of Iraqs oil, against the bullshit war from the beginning, corporations involvement in policy, there are so many things that he is speaking out on for the people like our elected officials are supposed to and he stands alone on most of them if not all.

So why if we are sick of the same old political bullshit, do we continue to ignore people like him and elect who the media gives us? Have we been dumbed down that much as a people? Other countries that are fighting for their rights must think we are fucking idiots that we continue to fall for the nonsense that is put in front of us. Will we ever stand up for ourselves and make the change or will we just sit back like good boys and girls and do what the corporations want us to?

4. That is why I don't believe any of the polls the MSM are pushing
We are being told that Hillary is our candidate even before the first primaries have occurred. No one has been chosen, but to hear them talk, she is our choice.

Well...I'm tired of playing games. No more.

5. Maybe for the next election, we could try voting for a candidate...
that the media doesn't run 90% of the time. Probably wouldn't matter who and we would probably be better off than with their pick.

20. Ya kno wthe other night when channel surfing, one of the MSM
TV outlets had a short update on Edwards, and I realized that I had not seen a photo of him and Elizabeth for at least three weeks on TV.

All I hear on TV is "Clinton vs. Obama."

As though they are the only people in the race.

10. So am I
I really thought that come last February we would be seeing real change, instead it's been more of the same, actually it's felt like you'll take it and like it because we're the only game in town so what the hell you going to do?
I'm at a loss, I don't know what to do, I'm so damn tired of fighting only to lose time and again, I feel used, like a dirty kleenex. I'm just a short hair away from letting these sons of bitches have the amerikkka they so desperately want and go into being a full time brain dead hermit.

But I just can't back down or let them destroy what our fore-fathers fought so hard to create.

She ignores all email except constituents despite the fact that she is the leader of the whole shebang. She totally did not get why the people were on her doorstep. She is being handled and needs to hear from the angry citizenry but that is being blocked.

However, I know that if the ones we voted into their current positions don't make a move and do what they promised, they will be voted out.

There are tons of angry voters out there. I'm not the only one. We want action, not words.

24. Totally agree.. I was watching a tape I had of CNN from 1996 the other day..
and was stunned how different the news used to be.

In the 15 minute clip nearly every story was "good" news. There was no us vs. them political bullshit at all, no terrorist stories, no war, no pundits feeding us fair and balanced lies. The world was such a different place 10 years ago, I don't even recognize it any more.

25. Yes it was different, but...
even then the change in news had started. I don't know exactly when the news became not news, but became entertainment.

I remember the days of Walter Cronkite, Howard K Smith, Huntley/Brinkley Report, and others. People you felt you could trust. Not many around like that any more.

Guess that's why I love Keith Olbermann so much. I trust him to tell me the truth.
