Conyers wants answers on pre-9/11 NSA program.In court documents released last week, former Qwest CEO Joseph Nacchio revealed that “the NSA approached Qwest more than six months” before 9/11 “about participating in a warrantless surveillance program to gather information about Americans’ phone records.” In a letter to Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell and Justice official Kenneth Wainstein today, House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (D-MI) requested “an immediate briefing on the facts” of the program as well as all documents relating to the “pre-9/11 activities and the legal basis for conducting them.”

1. The problem that exists is that he can want answers, but he is unlikely ...

to get them if past performance holds up... So far they have not found a way to force this White House to provide what the legislators are asking for. Even issuing a Supeano doesn't work, so I doubt if they will get what they want.

3. So, the Administration has given information to phone company CEOs that they won't give to Congress

If the phone company people were given enough information to know the programs were illegal then that was more information than has been provided to Congress - one presumes. After all, if Congress was briefed that an illegal program was in progress they would stop it because of its illegality, wouldn't they?

we keep throwing at this administration will continue to be ignored? The only way we are going to get answers is Impeachment and I know conyers knows this.....I wish he had more people standing with him and with us that demand justice prevail.

5. I think the Dem congress will aggressively pursue this one.

They care about their jobs. Who was bushco spying on in 2001? If it was terrorists, the spying didn't catch the highjackers, and is proven ineffective,unless they LIHOP. The object of the spying was most likely the Democrats, for political gain and manipulation. This is the only thing that our elected leaders will truly worry about.

7. The main fact was Bu$h wanted telecom officials,

to give them this information six months before the 9-11 attacks. What was the reason for this prior to 9-11? That's the question i want answered.

8. He's going over Hayden's head to his current boss. Hayden was NSA chief

then and is CIA director now. It is Hayden who has a lot of explaining to do!
