And once again, I am reminded to thank God that a certain segment of DU Land holds no power in government.

Rant on, friends. Rant on. Let no considerations of decorum, class, tradition or tactics deflect you. Call for the ouster of Pelosi and the rest. Enjoy walking in circles after you blow your own foot off.

Oy vey.

I'm going with Mr. Webb. All the clapping in the world won't take the sting out of the whipsong he is playing on that speech.

38. I'm not quite your age but getting closer, and I found the behaviour tonite to be
very misleading and beyond "respectful" or "polite"- Rather it appeared to me that people were too afraid of standing true to their conscience, or of being held to account for not kissing up.

I don't understand how having a Basketball player stand up is so repugnant, when standing and applauding for *'s statements inciting a larger war, and increased troops and battlefields.

To each their own I guess.

ENOUGH with this "loyalty"...suppressing the very "Freedom of Speech" (and Reaction) which IS the basis of the very basis of "Freedom" we allegedly defend abroad.

Every time the Dems stood and applauded, particularly at so much of the empty, meaningless and senseless statements, there is NOTHING wrong with being Democratically, freely, honestly nauseated.

26. They could have kept to their seats and been completely polite.
This is the party that stated that a vote for Democrats was a vote for more terrorism. The party that staged their waggy blue finger parade at a previous SOTU. Why is it that we are always supposed to be the ones playing nice, while they can pull outrageous stunt after outrageous stunt?

I don't think anyone needs to be ousted, I think our opposition party still has no spine, even now that it actually has some power.

I worry that this lack of spine will translate directly into at least two more years of our slaughtering Iraqis. A party that cannot even bring itself to sit politely while that idiot mumbles through another complete pack of lies is really not very likely to have the courage to vote down funding for more war.

Fuck decorum Will. Decorum drowned in New Orleans. There was no funeral parade, it got rained out.

51. I'm sick of polite. Polite has got us into this mess.
I want to see members of Congress stand up and denounce *' for the bedwetter he is. Our nation is a joke and we pretend that the GOP hasn't stolen the silver.

The roof leaks the AC's broken and the pipes are making funny noises. The holes in the driveway swallowed a mail truck last week. Little Sarah is a drug addict and little Jimmy is in Iraq trying not to get blown up. In case you haven't been watching TV no man over 30 can get a stiffy without swallowing a blue pill. We are broke and the tools to make repairs on our economy have been sold to China.

Why should they be clapping?

28. There is a difference between decorum and deception- between humility
Edited on Tue Jan-23-07 10:42 PM by Bluerthanblue
and hypocrisy- and in my less than "highly educated" opinion, the desire to "LOOK" respectful, or to avoid being condemned for being polite AND authentic is the "accepted norm" these days I guess. (I don't mean stooping to childish, spit-balls, back turning, smirking and facial gymnastics, but by GOD- why jump to your feet, and applaud when what is being said is meaningless drivel??)

My late father was an old fashioned gentleman- very highly respected and educated. He had a way of being respectful, without selling himself out- I'm disappointed in the FALSE faces put on by many legislators at the SOTU tonite.

Speak the TRUTH- but do it with class. Act in polite but genuine ways. That doesn't include putting on false faces, in my admittedly ignorant perspective- and it doesn't have to mean acting in a disrespectful manner.

and started ranting on DU? I would certainly agree that anyone who got drunk and then posted lacked decorum and class. And I further agree that I also would thank God that no "certain segment" (if you meant alcoholics) holds power in government. We could call the offense PWD, i.e., posting while drunk. little smirk think he still has some friends and hit him low asap when he least expects it.

NEVER, NEVER give away your battle plans before the fight.

Also, if they had stayed seated and quiet, which "we" would have loved, a lot of the public and the media would have jumped on it with both feet.....and remembered it in 2008.

Some would not have liked a break in Tradition , no matter what he has done.

I say, let him think he is liked and has friends on both sides.

But in all seriousness, I was a little put off by the clapping myself. Now, I freely admit I'm coming from the hard line left wing where we fought the last few elections in the trenches and dealt with all of the dirty tricks and downright wrong decisions that has led this country to where we are now.

I understand decorum and I don't mind applause given in measured amounts - but I really started to notice that there wasn't much that they WEREN'T clapping for, which is very disconcerting.
