Rumsfield's "snowflake" memos leaked to the WP

From the Desk of Donald Rumsfeld . . .
In Sometimes-Brusque 'Snowflakes,' He Shared Worldview, Shaped Policy

By Robin Wright
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, November 1, 2007; Page A01

In a series of internal musings and memos to his staff, then-Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld argued that Muslims avoid "physical labor" and wrote of the need to "keep elevating the threat," "link Iraq to Iran" and develop "bumper sticker statements" to rally public support for an increasingly unpopular war.

The memos, often referred to as "snowflakes," shed light on Rumsfeld's brusque management style and on his efforts to address key challenges during his tenure as Pentagon chief. Spanning from 2002 to shortly after his resignation following the 2006 congressional elections, a sampling of his trademark missives obtained yesterday reveals a defense secretary disdainful of media criticism and driven to reshape public opinion of the Iraq war.

1. For some reason, the term "snowflake babies" popped into my head.
Anyway, Rummy sounds like a delusional car salesman: Tell me what I have to do to get you to buy this war and take it home TODAY!!!

8. Didn't they
attack Edwards for calling them on their "Bumper Sticker" mentality?

Have I mentioned yet how much I hate these people?

14. The line forms there...
<points left> in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Wear a jacket, it's nippy out. And take this, um, "breaker bar" I keep in my car. Seventeen inches of stainless steel should do quite nicely, I would think.

4. Will the MSM make use of this to prove we are being duped into war a second time?
Or will they ignore and continue to beat the Iranian war drums?

9. The last point made in the article
was about a newspaper article that referred to "the ruined military". It says that Rummy wanted a stronger rebuttal of it, and wanted it written by November 26, 2006. When was he fired? Wasn't that earlier in the month, the day after the election? Or is he still working in the Pentagon?

10. Rumsfeld=Propaganda and Connections
Not an ounce of sense or morality and more interested in misleading than leading. Unfortunately, for our troops, they had to take orders from this moronic egghead.

20. presumably he meant Arabs
since Pakistanis are Muslims.

He's drawing a comparison between Iraq and the U.S. regarding immigration. He meant the immigrants do the jobs the Arabs won't do.

He also lamented that oil wealth has at times detached Muslims "from the reality of the work, effort and investment that leads to wealth for the rest of the world. Too often Muslims are against physical labor, so they bring in Koreans and Pakistanis while their young people remain unemployed," he wrote.

17. Rich Saudis do...many wealthy arabs do. So do our wealthy to an extent.
Edited on Thu Nov-01-07 09:49 AM by YOY
That's why they import Pakistanis and Bangalis to do their dirty work (streetsweeping, contruction, various other kinds of manual labor etc...)at little pay and less worker rights. Those shantytowns in Arab countries make ripe recruiting grounds for those who would rather not blame their masters for dissent but the West...

I highly doubt Rummy has had dealings with any muslims outside of the rich arab community.

But it sure is sickening when they lay it out in a memo like that with the sole intention manipulating the public. Damn he's a piece of shit!
