Why President Bush is Arnold Schwarzenegger's best friend
I don't like how Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger runs the state we live in. Did enjoy some of his films but I guess that's because I'm a typical recovered jock. Wish he'd go back to acting. At some other role than politics. But he's told old for films and knows it. Or doesn't want to make them and watch them flop anymore.

So he's a Governor of one of the world's largest economies.

Sure he's not the "worst of republicans" though you might have trouble explaining that to some teachers and nurses i know. And my other environmental friends too.

In short the main reason people here in California still like Arnold Schwarzenegger is because he's not George W. Bush. To that extent the President of he United States is Arnold Schwarzenegger's best friend. Arnold can't survive on his stage persona and political instincts alone. He's not smart enough. So he makes a few deals with the Democratic legislature and looks concerned about the rest of us while flying in a helicopter over the burned sections of So Cal. A good photo op really.

That's the part of his job he's got down pat: Be a big enough PERSONALITY for the job. Come from Hollywood, not Daly City. This is California, not North Dakota damn it! I can see why we rejected a Gray man named Davis. Again Schwarzenegger's other advantage is that he isn't George W. Bush.

Fortunately I think he listens to his wife at times.

But he's NOT George W. Bush. And that is the reason Bush is his best friend: The rest of California see Bush as the real enemy. We merely view Schwarzenegger as a minor nuisance in the game. He's probably worse than a jerk but we don't have much time to think about him. His president is just THAT BAD.

Schwarzenegger was very vulnerable in the 2006 re-election but his opponent Phil Angelides was perceived as weak and ran a lousy campaign. Angelides was dead coming out of the gate against an opponent he should have beaten easily.

I'm not one of those persons who jumps on the bandwagon against Arnold at every turn because he says something dumb or sexist. We all KNOW he's dumb and sexist. No surprise. What do you expect from an Austrian born body builder? Next question please.

So we're stuck with Arnold. Not happy with it, but things could be worse. If there's truly anything good about Schwarzenegger it's his wife and that he isn't Bush. And that he's teachable. In some ways that's enough. We can ignore his obvious ego mania. Maybe even me, Wiley Coyote, has a minor case of "Stockholm Syndrome". I've just been around so many assholes for so long that I'm less bothered than I should be about Arnold Schwarzenegger.

But I'm still bothered. At least he can't run for president.

In the mean time I hope he listens more and more often to his wife. I truly doubt he'll listen to me. Or you.

2. Good points
I am also glad that ARnold can't run for president. The Repub field is so weak that I think he would win the nomination and give whoever wins the Dem nomination more trouble than any Repub presently running.

I am so afraid that he will run for the Senate against Boxer. I think he would defeat her if the election were held today.

I moved to California in January 2003 and I have voted against Arnold in every election. However, my very religious female neighbor loves him. Don't understand it.

3. The reason Ahnold hoodwinks a lot of the electorate is that
as an actor he knows how to manipulate the publicity out there as to what a great job he's doing. That's what he does efficiently. He has not been a good governor otherwise. In fact he has brought us back retrograde to Pete Wilson's governorship with the help of, guess who?, Pete Wilson. You know the guy whose mess Grey Davis got stuck with? I don't think Maria has much influence on him and quite honestly she's an airhead whose not much concerned about every day people's problems. I don't think she even tries to influence him. Remember she hates politics.
