Say hello to the Draft
Edited on Tue Jan-23-07 10:18 PM by jasonc
Can you think of another way the military will increase by nearly 100 thousand troops?

edit: for those of you that did not watch the SOTU, shrub said he will ask congress for authorization to increase the size of the Military by 92-97K troops, I forget which exactly.

3. The Anatolian Plateau is a large landmass controlled by Turkey
I meant the Golan Heights, a plateau which is currently contolled by Syria. I was really sick last night, and I didn't know what I was talking about, which I'm sure is obvious.

The implication of my intended remark was that, as a 19-year-old male, I expect to be drafted in order to meet the 92,000-soldier expansion of the armed forces. Once the ranks of the Army and Marine Corps have been sufficiently expanded, I believe we will then invade Syria. The Golan Heights has been contended between Syria and Israel for some time, and if we invade Syria we will likely capture it and render it as a token of goodwill to our Israeli allies.

4. the political reality is that they will not vote to bring back the draft
they are looking at what '06 did with the electorate upset over Iraq and are running away from Bush on that issue, and do you actually think that all these politicians up for election in '08 will vote to bring back the draft which would be even more unpopular?

16. Which is why you'll see a new terra attack and martial law...
It won't matter, because as little as Bush cares for the will of the people, he's clearly up to something and some city is going to get obliterated later this year.

5. Yes.
By allowing "non-military" provisions...we can send our drug dealers, rapists, murderers, and illegal immigrants to Iraq instead of to jail.
By not being military, they will have no death benefits or be tied to those pesky Geneva Conventions and military protocols that Bushco hates so much.

7. The military can increase another 100,000 by merely lowering the standards to join
That is how it is done.

10. It will bring in plenty of kids of Bush supporters
But not just any of their kids. They will only sacrifice one of their children that may have some issues that the parent doesn't want to deal with. I have seen it happen before.

My ex-marine Republican neighbor when I was was a kid managed to get his drug addicted son with psychiatric problems into the army during Vietnam when they really needed bodies. Not his other two kids. Just the one.

The kid died in a military psychiatric hospital.

A sad story.

An Army of one wrong recruit

Autism - The signing of a disabled Portland man despite warnings reflects problems nationally for military enlistment

Sunday, May 07, 2006 MICHELLE ROBERTS

Jared Guinther is 18. Tall and lanky, he will graduate from Marshall High School in June. Girls think he's cute, until they try to talk to him and he stammers or just stands there -- silent.

Diagnosed with autism at age 3, Jared is polite but won't talk to people unless they address him first. It's hard for him to make friends. He lives in his own private world.

Jared didn't know there was a war raging in Iraq until his parents told him last fall -- shortly after a military recruiter stopped him outside a Southeast Portland strip mall and complimented him on his black Converse All Stars.

"When Jared first started talking about joining the Army, I thought, 'Well, that isn't going to happen,' " said Paul Guinther, Jared's father. "I told my wife not to worry about it. They're not going to take anybody in the service who's autistic."

But they did. Last month, Jared came home with papers showing that he not only had enlisted, but also had signed up for the Army's most dangerous job: cavalry scout. He is scheduled to leave for basic training Aug. 16.

15. Incentives and lowering standards...
Higher pay rates, bonuses, more money for college, offering citizenship to immigrants and lowering standards.
