CODEPINK CONNECTS ‘RIVER OF BLOOD'
Honoring Iraq War Resisters, and Chalking War Dead ...from the S.F. War Memorial Bldg to the Federal Bldg
SAN FRANCISCO – To demonstrate Congress's complicity in the continued
illegal Iraq war and occupation, CodePink Sunday starting at 12 NOON will
hold a series of Veterans Day actions -- including one to honor Iraq War
resisters and another which will use chalk to outline the bodies and names
of the U.S. troops killed since Congress passed the last Iraq/Afghanistan
funding bill in March.
The "River of Blood" action, symbolizing the tragic loss of lives, will
lead from the S.F. War Memorial Bldg to the Federal Bldg, the home of House
Speaker Pelosi's office. At the Federal Bldg., CodePink will read the names
of the Iraq War Resisters and honor their courage for refusing to
participate in this unwinnable war.
"The War Criminals that so freely sacrifice our young troops and Iraqi
civilians could not do so without continued ‘funding' from Congress. The
blood is on the hands of Speaker Nancy Pelosi and all of Congress who
continue to send President Bush more war funds," said organizer, Toby Blome.
CodePink's monthly Golden Gate Bridge Peace March, preceding the chalking
action, will include a reading of the names of recent soldiers killed in
the Iraq War and an honoring ritual of all Iraq war resisters. At the end
of the chalking action at the Federal Bldg., CodePink will again honor the
courageous soldiers who are resisting this war. It is estimated that 40,000
soldiers have now gone AWOL.
