5. You are SO wrong....
But then there were those who said similar things to Kerry re: the Swiftboating of his reputation. They, of course were proven right also, right? Oh, wait.....:eyes:

7. I totally agree with you. Pointing out to the public what they're doing
is the best way to show how silly, childish, and insulting those who use Democrat as a pejorative are being. WE can laugh at them, and turn their insult back on them.

18. illinoisprogressive has a point...
the swiftboating should be have dealt with quickly and firmly because it was damaging. It made people think less of Kerry because it spread negative lies about him.

Is any voter likely to think less of us because some asshole calls us the Democrat party instead of Democratic? I know that it is done purposely and I've heard people say that it disassociates us with democracy or emphasizes the syllable "rat", but I just don't see it.

To me, it's as if someone purposely mispronounced your name or kept calling you "Jill" even though they knew your name was "June." It would be childish, disrespectful and petty, but it wouldn't make you look bad. "Jill" isn't an insult. Do you look better if you ignore it, keep correcting them politely, make a joke of it or scream, "My name is JUNE, asshole!"

(if, on the other hand, the kept calling you "Wimpy" or some other negative attribute -- like with the swiftboating -- it might make more sense to fight back more vigorously).

8. Naaah. It's a way to rib them in return.
Besides, with their use of the term "Democrat" as a pejorative on record in so many places, it's going to make them look like a bunch of high-school dweebs.

--p!
My apologies to high-school dweebs.

17. Um... have you seen ANYONE up until very recently - making an
issue of it?

They've BEEN ignoring it for all this time and it has NOT stopped. Now, it's in the State of the Union speech, for cryingoutloud. Nobody's even brought it up til lately, when Chris Matthews put it to ed rogers one day on "Hardball" - nailing him for the repeated use of it. That was just a couple of months or so ago, and it's the first I've EVER heard from anybody in the media, making an issue of it. I think they've tried to ignore it already. They've tried to move on as though it hadn't happened. They've tried the "don't react, you'll just draw attention to it" AND NONE OF THOSE TEMPLATES IS ANY GOOD. NOT ONE OF THEM HAS PRODUCED RESULTS: to get that shit to stop. It only continues and increases.

I think we should start hitting back. EVERY time it's used, it needs to be corrected, and matched - with either "republics" or "republi-CONS." Followed by the statement - "when you say the name of my party correctly, I will do likewise with yours."

Taste of their own medicine. See how they like it.

11. Tonight, even Joe Scarborough said it should be called the DemocratIC Party!
"Give 'em the couple of letters!" he said.

To which Keith said "YES!"

It was quite obvious that they saw through all the "Democrat Party" garbage and were not going to let anyone play that game.

15. Now THAT made me really happy!!!
That was one of the high points of the evening for me, when they actually talked about the "Democrat Party" issue on MSNBC! And then when Joe Scarborough finally said, "Why not call them what they want to be called?" I finally realized what WINNING the majority actually means. It means they HAVE to respect us (or at least pretend to) whether they want to or not.
