Douchebag Leno screws employees
http://weblogs.variety.com/wga_strike_blog/2007/11/tonight-show-la.html

I'm pretty sure I heard Letterman and Conan O"Brien were paying their staffs out of their own pockets. Not Jay!

What a dildo.

1. Bullshit, he didnt screw his employees.
Though that was mighty nice for Conan to pay his guys, they striked. Its not Leno's responsibility now to pay them with his own money because they wanted to strike (I'm on the writer's side btw).

2. Scumbag. Not like he doesn't have the cash. I never understood why Leno got Johnny Carsons gig.
Carson was worth staying up for, the only thing "funny" about Leno is the size of his head.

9. No no no HOW funny is he with his writers
the only jokes he ever does is CLINTON, CLINTON, CLINTON SEX SEX CLINTON CLINTON....The only reason to watch him is Monday Night Headlines. But I think he did pretty well by the employees paying them all this time. What other company pays their employees when they go on strike.

I quoted three consecutive paragraphs from the article, but another poster said I was picking and choosing. I was just trying to shed light on the matter and not make any comment. I don't even watch TV, for heaven's sake! But I guess it would be best for everyone to read the entire article themselves so that they can go ahead and keep arguing.

7. Picking and choosing are we?
Why not include this paragraph? Pretty relevant to this conversation.

"Writers were not included in the bonuses, but one writer emphasized that “he's not being Scrooge. He just wanted to get the staff taken care of first. I can't emphasize enough how generous Jay is.”

11. Now you can be happy
I deleted the three consecutive paragraphs I quoted from the article without any comment by me. Now only your quote stands.

I was only trying to clarify matters about what the writers said. I was trying to be helpful. I don't watch Leno, and in fact rarely watch TV.

19. I don't think they are referring to striking workers...
this article was about people who were not needed because they couldn't produce the show without writers (camaramen, staff, clean-up crew, managers, etc.)

13. Leno is a scumbag Republic anyway
Edited on Sat Dec-01-07 09:44 AM by Gman
I don't expect any more out of somebody like him anyway. And he's not funny. I didn't like him when he subed for Johnny Carson and I don't like him now. And besides, David Letterman should have got the job.

14. Jay Leno is NOT a Republican
Jay Leno says, “I’m not conservative. I’ve never voted that way in my life.” He “really worries” what a Dubya victory in November will do to the makeup of the Supreme Court. He believes “the wool was pulled over our eyes” with the Iraq war. He thinks the White House began using terrorism “as a crutch” after 9/11. He feels that during the campaign Kerry should “make Bush look as stupid as possible.” He believes “the media is in the pocket of the government, and they don’t do their job” so “you have people like Michael Moore who do it for them.” He has on his joke-writing staff a number of former professional speechwriters for Democratic candidates. “No Republicans.” When it comes to Bush, he doesn’t think his politics are much different from Letterman’s. “Does he show his dislike maybe a little more than I do? Probably.”

Any proof the other way?

17. I've never thought Leno was a neo-con
Edited on Sat Dec-01-07 12:28 PM by Maccagirl
but his audience is chocked-full of them. They always laugh at Clinton jokes and act like any joke about Repubs is "unAmerican". Do they all come from Orange County?

15. He wasn't as cunning as Liz Taylor to get union members to cross the picket line
I'm sure the Leno news will get comedian 'scabs' to beat a path to his door with witty word play at less then the writers guild demand.

16. The PRODUCERS Are The Scumbags
While I'm sure Leno makes a nice buck, it's not his fault/responsibility for this strike. He's stuck in the middle...as is Letterman, O'Brien and others. He's not just covering the salaries of the striking writers but everyone else on the show...techies, musicians, office staff and all...add it up and it starts costing real money...money the PRODUCERS should be paying as they are the ones who profit the most.

I'm no Leno fan, but I give him some slack on this. He hasn't talked about putting the show back in production (like Carson Daly) or has expressed any sympathy than for the writers (he's show up in support on the picket lines). Now it'd be nice if SAG finally joined in on this strike on the WGA side...that would force the Producers to serious bargain rather than let this thing drag on and isolate the writers.
