Imus is on the air. He's discussing the Rutgers situation again, and not making any
excuses. He puts all the blame on himself. He understands that what happened, happened because of his actions.

It's interesting....he's talking about the details of the situation and the meeting with the women from Rutgers.

He says he thought it was important to meet with the team, explain himself, apologize and ask for forgiveness.

He says it was a life changing experience, that four hour meeting.

This is quite interesting...streaming live on the internet for those out of area on WABC in NY.

3. I listen to it and Imus did not make excuses I also like how he called the media out for losing
interest in the race dialog they claimed they were going to have. Imus sounded to me like a man who knows he has a second chance and is determined not to blow it. While one statement won't change everything, his efforts from this day forward will demostrate his sincerity.

The speech about the Rutgers women was quite heartfelt. I think he's going to become a crusader on the race issue. I think he's had a 'Come to Jesus' moment...

I don't like listening to a 'Me Too Chorus' all day and all night. I like hearing diverse views, as long as they are from sharp minds.

Maher and Imus have good guests and ask tough questions. They aren't like the Hannity's and Dildo Reallys.

But hey, it's your right, your choice, your call.

I don't think anyone should do anything that they don't want to do, and that includes listening to Imus.

And Maher is HONEST. He says he doesn't want to get married, doesn't want kids, and he says it often and loudly.

Anyone who hooks up with him, when he puts his 'agenda' out there so plainly, is a fool if they don't know what they're in for. He's not one that can be "changed" or "fixed." He is what he is--a horn dog. An honest horn dog, too, who doesn't go for long-term relationships.

A lot like the ladies who look for the MONEY honey, or the sugar daddy or whatever. That's 'sexist' too, I suppose, but if they are honest about what they want, it's no one's business but theirs.

26. Will Imus Thrive In A Right Wing Cesspool??
A good New York radio friend mentioned the problems Imus may confront in his comeback...he may be on the wrong station. WABC is a right wing hate machine...Imus now is in the company of folks like Rushbo, Hannity, Mark Levin and other shitsticks...and will he fit in with this audience of freepers and flying monkeys? My friends take is that it's not gonna be easy. Unlike WFAN that had a large built-in audience and Imus' show was unique on the station, on WABC, Imus has to outscream or out-outrage some of the biggest hate spewers on the dial. Will he? Citadel is banking on the name...and surely Imus wants to do well for his new bosses, but will WABC listeners welcome him...and inversely, will listeners from other stations check out the show and then tune out for the rest of the schedule. Stay tuned.

Now let's see if he brings on Tancredo or stumps or defends Rudy on the air.

32. I will say, I hate hearing the commercials for Dildo Really.
If he has an ironclad contract, he can start fucking with those guys. That would be fun.

His show is like it was before, only not quite so mean. So far, anyway. It's good--it has humor, and it's not sissy humor either, but it just isn't that vicious-mean shit. "Bill Clinton" was just telling him how his wife was going to control his LIFE for the next five years...which was rather funny.

He's using WABC as his "entree." What he really wants to do is grow his RFD TV affiliation. That's a thirty million household audience, and he's looking to get the cable providers to carry it, too, and that will increase his market massively.

He's only ON two radio stations now. Big markets, but only two stations.

I also think rightwing radio will get less rightwing as their numbers in Congress diminish. That's a measure of the support for those views, right there.

I'll bet it will be 'populist' radio ten years from now...

45. No Bernard McGuirk???
As a "student of the medium", I've long admired Imus from a radio survivor perspective. He obviously knows how to play the game to be able to land a new gig so quickly...most others would have never graced a mike again. The man's timing and "feel" not only for radio but for morning radio is what's made him a legend...and when he stays focused, his show is one of the best out there...no matter what the format, even no matter the content.

What hurt Imus was he got complacent and lazy...this has happened before. He turned the show over to McGuirk and it came back to burn him as it was Bernard who started that rant against the Rutgers team as he has done on many other occasions. I have read that McGuirk isn't associated with the new show...maybe that will keep the "I-Man" more focused.

There's already "populist" radio in some areas...but it's not pretty. One station near here is an almost 24/7 advertisement for Ron Paul and Libertarians. The other day I tuned in to hear a "doctor" talk about how Democrats are innoculating our children against our will...blah blah blah.

I agree that the balance has and is shifting in radio...but more by technology than politics. Satellite and Internet radio will overtake "conventional radio" and it will change how that medium is programmed and marketed like how cable TV changed conventional TV. The diversity of programming will do for radio what the blogs did for the internet. The ones who can communicate the best and entertain will be the future stars.

Cheers...

The show he's replacing here in NY was Curtis Sliwa and Ron Kuby. I used to love that show because it was the only one that actually had the left point of view featured by a brilliant and articulate lawyer (Kuby for those who don't know him). It's a good slot for Imus - while I already miss Ron Kuby, I think Imus will do well without having to become Hannity or any of the other miscreants on that station.

35. I find it all very strange because he really only had to apologize for word
choice. If he had called them mean-spirited, or borderline dirty player, or unsportsmanlike, or rough, or any other description that got across the message that they weren't the classiest players in the league, then nothing ever would have come of it.

My father in law follows women's college basketball very closely--like many, he lost interest in the self-centered showboating of the NBA--and he couldn't stand the Rutgers team. Said that they really were a pretty lousy and violent bunch.

Imus' word choice--and of course the simple matter that he would even have those words pop up into his mind--was the real problem.

38. He isn't making any excuses, though. He says he fucked up and he was wrong and he is still sorry,
basically. He's not justifying his behavior at all, and he says he deserved what he got.

About the only swipe he took, after acknowledging that the whole thing was a 'life changing experience' was at the networks who pledged to start a big dialogue about race and language and so on, and who dropped that idea like a rock once the heat was off. He suggested that HE is going to pick up where they never started up--we'll see.

I notice that all of those words and terms are still out there in the popular music.

You should listen to the show. It's a very different tone, and it is VERY good. So far, anyway. The interviews have been nothing short of brilliant. Most substantive I have heard. He asked Huckabee about the "wedding registry" business today, and got him to say flat out he favors an amendment to the Constitution against abortion. Asked him if he thought Jews went to heaven. It was amazing.

He's always gonna call Senator Clinton satan. It's a schtick with him. He had words of praise, in backhanded fashion, for her this morning, though--said she was tougher than the rest of the field, more or less.

Both are disturbingly rightwing stations, the ads will drive you mad. You can get them on the web from their websites, or you can listen to the feed with (equally annoying and repetitive) PSA's at the breaks at http://www.imusonair.com/index.php

67. OK. Thank you! I think it was WABC, NY I was listening to.
I'll find it again. I've been playing with my new toy, a Internet Radio that will play any radio station that's streamed online...WORLDWIDE. Over 10,000 stations. It's a blast. I was listening to Russian Radio, Costa Rica Radio, BBC, TEHRAN even has a station streaming online! This invention is the best thing since sliced bread.:) I'm having so much fun with it. Now I can hear all of Air America. My local Chicago station has a daylight broadcast only, so we always missed the shows that followed Randi Rhodes. I can get Nova M and listen to Mike Malloy again!:bounce: ALL for free!

Thanks for the info!

61. He is the best political interviewer on the air. THAT's why he has fans.
I haven't heard ANYONE else ask Huckabee if Mormons are really Christians, if Jews go to Heaven, if abortion should be constitutionally banned via the amendment process, what's up with that "wedding registry bullshit" and if he really believes that earth started six thousand years ago and man and dinosaurs coexisted.

The talking heads won't touch that shit. Imus did.

68. You should do what you want....and leave others to do what they want.
That's the American way.

He's having Kerry on tomorrow. Today he did a very incisive interview with Pat Buchanan, right wing pundit extraordinaire, and they broke down the GOP field.

He's only been on a couple of days, but his Huckabee interview was incredible--the most revealing thing I've heard from the guy so far. He also did a brilliant interview with Richardson, too--stuff I haven't heard from the MSM.

His 'humor' has been revamped entirely. It's not the same lame schtick that no one really liked, but put up with because the interviews were so good.

73. I wasn't the one who made a snarky comment about the program, you were.

"Ooooh, gee, he sounds so sincere..."

That remark was plainly intended to be a subtle rebuke to those who are pleased that the show is back on the air. As though those of us who listen to it are somehow being "disloyal" or not meeting your standards in some fashion.

If you don't like the program, you absolutely SHOULD avoid it. But there are people here who do like it. He's definitely made an unambiguous statement about mending his ways, he's backed it up with a diverse on-air staff, and he's promised, publicly, that he will never give those Rutgers women a reason to regret their acceptance of his apology and their offer of forgiveness.

I mean, really--what should he do? Go away forever? NEWT did far worse, and he came back with a big fat smile.

But whatever. I get your point--you don't like the guy, and your view is more important and more valid than anyone else's.

The last couple of days have provided the most substantive political interviews I've heard since this circus of a presidential race started. So, MMV.

72. I have a love/hate relationship with Imus.

I watched him faithfully from the beginning of his simulcast on MSNBC. He was fascinating to watch, though often infuriating. My wife and I watched his show on RFD this morning for the first time. He put on a great show today. There will be no more "Morning Joe" in my household, from now on.

74. I am in the same boat. He can be infuriating, but he does do a good political interview.
It's quite remarkable, how he can con people into saying things that they might later regret. The best thing I like about him is that he shuts up, and lets the person talk, UNLESS they're trying to give him a bullshit non-answer. In that case, he's all over them like a cheap suit.

So far, I like the new cast members, especially the young lady from Plano, TX--she's got a sunny personality that's just the antidote for the mean old sourpuss.
