IMO, we are at a transition point that will require a high level of technical know how in order to survive the next 30/50 years or else it's going to be DarkAges 2.0.

1. I'll settle for scientific literacy and the ability to appoint those with appropriate
sci/eng/tech backgrounds.

13. Sort Of
I heard an expert on regional dialects being interviewed about this - this fellow said that Carter was sort of blurring the "l" into a "y", which is a common thing to do in GA. He certainly wasn't saying "nuke-you-ler", like the Chimperor says.

5. Rudy Guiliani stayed at a Holiday Inn Express one time
He successfully used a plunger to unclog the toilet in his room after a post-coital dump.

6. Just being able to do the arithmetic on energy would be a big start
Being able to present the numbers honestly to the public will require true leadership, though.

7. Richardson was Secretary of Energy
No engineering degree but that job really does require a high degree of knowledge of technical issues, particular as concerns the weapons complex.

9. Herbert Hoover was an engineer, you know.
Not that I don't think a pres should understand engineering--pres should understand a bit of everything. Hoover was well-respected for the job he did overseeing relief in Europe after the devastation of WWI. But his skills were not suited the presidency.

12. In this day and age of Information overload, we need Leaders who have a wide range of familiarity of
issues, technological stuff, sciences, history, cultures, etc

The GOP clearly shows a startling lack of the above.

At least our Dems are a level or 2 above the Pubs.
