"My Reasons for the Pardons," by William Jefferson Clinton, February 18, 2001. In it, he focused largely on the pardons for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Rich">Marc Rich and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pincus_Green">Pincus Green.

"...the case for the pardons was reviewed and advocated not only by my former White House counsel Jack Quinn but also by three distinguished Republican attorneys: Leonard Garment, a former Nixon White House official; William Bradford Reynolds, a former high-ranking official in the Reagan Justice Department; and Lewis Libby, now Vice President Cheney's chief of staff. ..."

Lewis "Scooter" Libby - "distinguished Republican attorney" - WJC, 2/18/2001

"... finally, and importantly, many present and former high-ranking Israeli officials of both major political parties and leaders of Jewish communities in America and Europe urged the pardon of Mr. Rich because of his contributions and services to Israeli charitable causes, to the Mossad's efforts to rescue and evacuate Jews from hostile countries, and to the peace process through sponsorship of education and health programs in Gaza and the West Bank. ..."

"... The suggestion that I granted the pardons because Mr. Rich's former wife, Denise, made political contributions and contributed to the Clinton library foundation is utterly false. There was absolutely no quid pro quo. Indeed, other friends and financial supporters sought pardons in cases which, after careful consideration based on the information available to me, I determined I could not grant. ..."

The Riches give richly to charitable causes, with no quid pro quo expected in return. - WJC, 2/18/2001

The NY Times didn't know how to print an angry finger wag to emphasize that, "I did *not* take $$$ for pardons from that woman."

Nor have we heard the inevitable admission: "Indeed, I *did* keep the $$$ that woman gave me for pardons."

"Lord, Hillary, don't tell me http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugh_Rodham#Politics.2C_hazelnuts.2C_and_pardons">I have to write another one of these op-eds now about your brother Hugh's pardon." - Overheard, CHAPPAQUA, N.Y., 2007

2. Voters in Iowa, Wyoming, New Hampshire, Michigan, Nevada, SC, Maine...
... and all the Super Duper Tuesday states - with the exception of NY - have not had a chance to register their feelings on this "old history" topic.
