Mike Huckabee – "Surging" Republican

Mike Huckabee is the "surging" candidate to watch in the Republican presidential primaries, at least for the moment. The former Arkansas governor is an ordained Southern Baptist minister and a believer in the "inerrancy" doctrine of Biblical scripture. Inerrancy means, quite simply, that the believer accepts every bit of the Bible as literal truth (Adam & Eve, an earth just 6,000 years old, etc.)

As governor, Huckabee was an enthusiastic death penalty supporter. He now supports World War III against Muslim "fascists" and he's taking his message of death on the road.

A panel of talking heads on Chris Matthews' "Hard Ball" conferred legitimacy on the Huckabee candidacy last week. A more professional group of journalists at the Pew Forum treated Huckabee with deference by avoiding any hard hitting questions. There was nothing about Huckabee's February declaration of World War III or his beliefs in a final judgment in our times and no mention of his tainted past in Arkansas. Only Kathy Kay of the BBC raised questions about the specter of the candidate's extreme views.

Let's see what the former Arkansas governor and minister has in store for the United States if he's selected to win the Presidency.

After becoming governor in 1997, Huckabee signed death warrants for 16 executions by lethal injection. This violates the clearly worded, but frequently forgotten commandment, "Thou shalt not kill." He must know that World War III means even more killing and death. But neither position seems to bother him. In fact, he recently used death imagery in estimating the reaction of fellow Republicans to his fund raising gains: "If I were some of these guys, I'd have to be sitting in a warm tub of water with razor blades,"

Does Huckabee really believe this nonsense? Probably. But he also has a record of killing mentally ill people by lethal injection, working diligently to free a rapist who murdered once freed then denying involvement, and a Giuliani-likerecord of taking liberties with government funds.

Perhaps he's ripe for an "all this can be yours" deal from the same donors that propelled Bush in the 2000 primaries. He campaigns as "the values guy" who is concerned about the workingman; a "just plain Huck" trying to help.

It's linked in the article, but check this out by Murray Waas on Huckabee's pardon of a 3 time rapist who went right out and murdered a woman in Missouri after Huckabee lobbied real hard for parole (he was going to commute the sentence altogether but got too much flack). Today, Huckabee denies this ever happened and blames Clinton! Total liar.

the same type of survey of old "Huck" on the 23rd, more damning ($150,000 in personal gifts!). But
not a word other than propping the guy up as the "next big thing" man of the people, "Bush with brains
...

There's no reason to think it will change. The same mega bucks donors that propped Bush may
step in for this guy. We'll see. But, as for now, no more Minister of Death for me. I know what
I need to about this guy.

He should be shut down but MSM was just gaga over him last week. They knew about his slush fund and parole action. I'll tell you one thing for sure, he will get wiped out completely in Missouri. There is a full knowledge of what this guy can do when he goes into action. The Dumond parole had a requirement that Dumond leave the state. So where did he go? Right to Missouri where he murdered that woman, after leaving Arkansas. There was a look-alike murder very close to the one he was convicted for the same night, I believe, and another where he was a suspect. So old "Huck" turns him lose (Huckabee wanted to commute the sentence originally) and the guy goes on a rampage. But the problem had been "transferred" to another venue and the governor survived...to threaten the entire world.

These establishment media types think they're cute by ignoring all of this. But they life here too. Watch how contributions materialize. That will tell the story, who gives and how much. He's not at all beyond a deal.

I remember when Huckabee first became Gov. of Arkansas and he was awful, he started tempering his image after he and his wife ended up living in a trailer and he started losing weight. I was stunned when he decided to run for President and never believed he would gain any stride, not like he has recently. You've followed his record perfectly Autorank and I hope this article makes the rounds because he is a frightening man, but the kind of soft sell "good ole boy" that does sell in the South, guitar and all.

Researching him is an adventure. I had no real bias other than against his right wing politics. But it's all there. The Arkansas Times was very useful but the information is there. Didn't know about the trailer, good grief. One thing I couldn't find was why he was sympathetic to Dumond in the first place, if there was a specific connection? I was told that he's a "big picture" guy and glosses over things, which may be true. But that was a rotten deal, he was warned, and the warning was true. I'm sure that he'd never carry Missouri.

The article is getting very good exposure, front page of Buzz Flash, which is always great and a bunch of other places - OpEd and Chimp, headline, front page. Next we'll take a look at the craven corporate media, see why they missed that Politico article on old Huck five days before Rudy got it in the same web publication.
