Does anyone here like Obama but dislike Oprah Winfrey?
I'm wondering if being overshadowed by the presence of a super-wealthy media empress on the campaign trail might backfire for the Obama campaign...remember, he's got to win the hearts and minds of the beer-drinkers as well as the wine-sippers if he wants to get the nomination.

I thought of that too...
...but it's a bit more unlikely, since Oprah is undeniably good at tapping into a vast demographic of stay-at-homers throughtout the country. Chances are, if Oprah loves Obama, her fan base will come around.

27. Yeah, that magazine
thing with having your pic on the cover of your own magazine every week gets old. Rosie did that for a while until it went under or whatever. I like Oprah and Rosie for their compassion and philanthropy ..it just gets to be too much in your face all the time. Have somebody else on your damn magazine..it won't kill ya.

24. I understand, chimpsrsmarter. I am so weary of her, have to surf
on by her show. She is so full of herself anymore. And the audience gazes adoringly at her. Sometimes her contempt for some shines through. That really turned me off. The woman REALLY thinks she is above the sheep who go to her show.Too bad.Sometime fame does a number on celebrities.

Edited on Tue Dec-04-07 12:44 AM by Spazito
There are many people I like or dislike in the public arena but when it comes to whom they support for election, it has little effect on me. It is the views of the candidates themselves, their record and whether my instincts tell me they believe what they are promising or merely saying what needs to be said to get elected.

Edited to add: Oprah's invitation to Arnold without inviting Davis during the California election did not endear her to me, it smacked of hypocrisy because she would know the influence she would have by showing, imo, favoritism by only having Arnold on her show. That is one big reason why I don't care for her but not the only reason.

I have never sat down and watched an episode.

It doesn't seem like my cup of tea, but I've never had the opportunity to judge her for myself.

She tells people what to think.

She tells people what to read.

She is now telling people how to vote.

She is no different than Rush Limbaugh.

31. So she's no different from any other celebrity who babbles on TV or writes a book.
They want the attention and they want the people to buy the product. Regardless of what the topic is.

Hmmm, I should get with the program too.

I'd say Oprah has more good feelings from me because she has some good qualities and a track record of helping people.

Obama is more of a blank slate cause he hasn't been around and is new to the scene. (which is one main problem why he will have a hard time winning the nomination)

But Oprah campaigning for Obama does leave a bad taste, because celebrities can certainly have political opinions but most Americans anyway don't care much about them.

30. Oprah is a real piece. But I kinda like what Obama says, but am unconvinced.
Sorry, a big tv star presence with big hair who gives away trinkets on her show runs around claiming all children want are ipods.

http://www.racialicious.com/2007/01/03/oprah-inner-city-kids-want-ipods-and-sneakers-not-education
Sigh… her remark frustrates me on so many levels. Please excuse the incoherent rant that is about to follow.

First, I hate this hypocritical assumption that poor people shouldn’t be allowed to have/buy nice things. I recently read a really great blog post that broke it down nicely, but unfortunately couldn’t find it anywhere (if anyone knows what I’m talking about, please post a link).

All of us, regardless of our income/wealth level, spend money on things that we really can’t afford. We all aspire to own objects that are out of our reach. This is not some kind of “inner city mentality.” It’s a mindset that we all buy into, pun intended.

http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=549125

I think Winfrey should be hailed for her generous spirit but also tweaked for suggesting inner-city kids in America don't deserve that same sort of investment in their future.

She can spend her money as she sees fit, but we have to fix our problem with public schools by ourselves, if only to prove our kids care about more than iPods

(the whole article is good)

BTW: Here she is promoting some iPods! Wow, who couldn't notice?
Wow. Just wow.
