I refuse to support any candidate who does not disavow pre-emptive war, torture, and spying on American citizens.

I refuse to support any candidate who does not demand transparency in our election system.

I refuse to support any candidate who does not demand the unconditional restoration of our rights as citizens under the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights.

I refuse to support any candidate who does not demand accountability of the current administration, as well as future administrations, for breaking our laws, as well as international laws.

It's time to think about forming a PAC. If EMILY'S List could change the political landscape, so can we.

an issue to choose a candidate over. To me it is extremely important for us to get someone in the white house that has shown us that they are for the people and not the corporations, I think some people actually feel its not important and that a corporate controlled candidate would be just fine? This is why our country is heading in the direction it is. We need real change and we need it now, not in 4 years, it may be too late then.

He's about as good as it gets on the issues. In France or other parts of Europe, his policies would make him a Social Democrat, not an unusual philosophy in mainland Europe.

12. That's the fault of the media, or perhaps those whose job it was to enforce anti-trust laws.

For the last 30 years nothing has really been done to prevent consolidated control over the news media. I don't know if the Democratic leadership was simply oblivious to the problem or knew there was a problem but looked the other way. The Telecommunications Act of 1996 really accelerated the consolidation.

People don't remember what it was like to have a real discussion over the issues. Today, Britney Spears and Paris Hilton stories pass as "discussion." There can not be a democracy if people are not informed of relevant information needed to make informed choices. The news media is treated as a profit-taking enterprise, first and foremost, not a vehicle to inform people. Perhaps the profit in news should be taken out to allow for a reordering of priorities.

Other options, of course, include:

A.) Since we are no longer a government of laws, wait and see if our guys and gals win in '08 so that we can get whatever crumbs they may be able to appease us with, or

B.) Continue whining and our own version of fear-mongering,

C.) Refusing to vote for anyone who graduated from Yale or the University of Chicago.

17. Good idea. Do you know how to do it?

Many good people here at DU, and elsewhere, are saying we have to start with support of *real* Democratic candidates, at the local level, and deliberately work to bring down those who have betrayed us.

Dennis Kucinicy? Yes.

Other candidates who supported the war? Make them take a stand on what they will do to restore our rule of law, where they stand on the Patrior Act and all those signing statements. Make them step up to the plate with regard to the international crimes committed by "our" government. If they won't do it, **** 'em. I'll vote for someone who doesn't mind speaking out on these topics.
