1. No. The internal factions opposing them seem to be winning the struggle.

First, someone blew the whistle on that surreptitious (& illegal)
cruise missile relocation...

And now the NIE they've been hiding for a year has been released.

3. I think the missile incidence scared the shit out of someone

and thats why that story broke. I can only hope that if and when the evil one declares war on Iran the generals will all stand down. In the present climate a bombing of Iran will have grave consequences for the us. China is already dropping hints that they are not playing ball with the bush cabal anymore by denying the entry of something like 13 different us ship into hong kong harbor. Putin had a few things to say too about the threats of bombing Iranian nuclear facilities. I guess if they keep everyone worried about what they're up to with iran its keeping the focus off Iraq. bushco's cronnies want their oil thats under the Iraqi sands and will let as many die as it takes to start pumping it.

However, given Bush & Cheney's open arrogance and disdain for the public, Congress, and, most importantly, "objective reality," I wouldn't be very surprised if Bush decides to thump his chests, remind everybody how little he cares about polls and that he is "THE DECIDER" and plow ahead anyway with whatever madness they wish to pursue in regards to Iran. The recently released NIE could, however, leave them bereft of support from (most of) the military and probably even some Republicans. We also appear to have somebody in charge of things over there in the Middle East (Fallon) who has emphatically taken Iran "off the table" during his watch. We also already have an unpopular and seemingly unending occupation, a President with a +/-30% rating and no new national tragedies for him and Cheney to use as a pretext for launching ANOTHER war/occupation, let alone troops to use. Of course, I never dreamed that so many otherwise smart, well-informed, and rational people would go along with this (mis-)administration about Iraq when the idea that Iraq had suddenly transformed itself from a broken and boxed-in third world country into a WMD-armed and operational "Death Star" back in 2002-2003 seemed so implausible as to be laughable for those of us living in what one White House aide referred to as the "reality-based community" (of which I am a PROUD member). :shrug:

2. No. No one believes them any longer.

The war in Iraq has been a failure in every sense of the word. They can try to spin it any way they like, but it's cost a fortune, those dead soldiers will not be coming back home ever, and we have nothing to show for it except heartache and debt.

Bushco is feeling their power waning. They know it's over.

The investigations will eventually turn up something impeachable, and that's when the shit hits the fan and the fat lady sings. And I feel it's coming, despite our pathetic Congress leaders who are doing everything possible to avoid doing their job and upholding their oath of office.

the climate in america is such today that if impeachment proceeding ever starts it'll go fast and sloppy, bush/cheney will have to flee before its all said and done. IMHO

We may see them as beaten but they don't see it this way . They have gotten everything they wanted so far .

I just have this feeling they are not just going to give up and walk away as easy as people seem to think .

I still can't find it in my heart to forgive all the americans who fell to fear and not only were sold on the idea of attacking Iraq but they promoted it . Now they have a change of heart ? This is what I question , is their change of heart just a change in some affect they have been hit with ?

What part of the 75 % of americans really have changed their minds and why , one more fear tactic may be all that is required to put them right back on the war path .

I recall those large numbers being attributed to people who supported the war. Supporting the war is like supporting the troops. It's just a Heil Hitler for the masses.

As I recall, more people trusted the UN to decide what to do than trusted the Chimp to decide what to do. But once it's done, Americans rally.

At the time Powell shook that vial I don't know how many people were in support of this attack , I know most of the idiots where I worked were all for turning the entire ME into glass .

I know most of the world rallied against this attack and were ignored as was the support we got after 9/11 and the offerings from Hugo after Katrina .

not by public opinion and certainly not by congress. i do think their nefarious plans have been delayed at least twice that i can think of, but they will have their war sooner or later.

There will be a trumped up “provocation” where the blame is placed on Iran as justification to attack them. Expect it immediately prior to the GE.

And if Iran responds by blocking the Strait of Hormuz, gas goes to $10/gal. overnight, there will be rioting in the streets and - Voila - martial law and cancelled elections….coup completed. Game. Set. Match.
