Leahy Moves on Rove Contempt Citation
Leahy Moves on Rove Contempt Citation

Karl Rove is gone, but not forgotten.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy has scheduled a vote tomorrow (http://www.politico.com/blogs/thecrypt/1207/Leahy_sets_Thursday_vote_for_contempt_resolutions_against_Rove_Bolten.html) on whether to issue contempt citations to Rove and White House chief of staff Josh Bolten ......

And then it's up to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV). His counterparts in the House leadership have delayed (http://www.tpmmuckraker.com/archives/004339.php) a vote for contempt citations against Harriet Miers and Bolten since July ....

Update: A Reid aide responds that "after the Committee acts on this issue, Senator Reid will consult with Senator Leahy about how to move forward on it." Maybe things will be clearer next week.

And for those who didn't catch our interview with Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) about the contempt citations earlier this week, check it out. http://www.tpmmuckraker.com/archives/004817.php

....

Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) has scheduled a committee vote Thursday on contempt resolutions against White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten and former presidential political guru Karl Rove for failing to respond to subpoenas.

Under Judiciary Committee rules, the vote could be postponed for a week .....

Rove and Bolten were subpoenaed earlier in the year by the Senate panel as part of the investigation into the sacking of nine U.S. attorneys. President Bush, citing executive privilege, refused to make the two senior aides available for questioning by the committee.

Leahy predicted that the contempt resolutions could reach the Senate floor sometime early next year.

5. Like Whitehouse said, it's all about the Bush administration "grading its own papers".
I love the way he put that. Remember in elementary school when we exchanged papers with our fellow students to grade? We didn't even consider refusing to do so & insisting on grading our own papers to protect us from a failing grade.

There are so many grievances committed by this thuggish administration that we literally cling to these statements made by Whitehouse, Leahy, Waxman, & all other spunky congress people for just a glimmer of hope that justice will be done. I have a busy life, but these are the articles that keep me coming to DU in my spare moments. I won’t be satisfied until justice is done.
