Who Has Taken Amtrak Lately
I am doing a trip for my aunt from New Jersey
She is going to take the Coast Starlight Vacation Package along the West Coast.....

1. It is one of the best trips on the system
Rode it in 2001. Quite a few miles on other routes too, but the Starlight was the best.

3. It's probably fine on such a long trip....
But on short hauls here in the Great Lakes (Detroit-Chicago etc), Amtrak sucks. They don't own the rails, so Amtrak trains have to stop and wait for freight trains to pass, and these waits can sometimes persist longer than an hour.

4. I've actually taken that train-
From Sacramento to San Luis Obisbo, a couple of times. Very nice trip, and neat train.

I may not be a good judge, as this is the first train I've ever been on in the US.

But I thought the trip was great.

It is a VERY nice train ride.

It usually runs late (sometimes known as the Coast Starlate).

Relax and enjoy.
