Fred Thompson vows to kill Castro if elected -
GOP Debate Excerpts
Published: 12/9/07, 10:45 PM EDT

By The Associated Press
(AP) - Some excerpts from Sunday's debate for Spanish-language audiences between Republican presidential hopefuls. Tom Tancredo, a long-shot candidate who has made a tough stance on immigration the centerpiece of his campaign, refused to attend.

FRED THOMPSON

_On how he would deal with Cuban President Fidel Castro, who has been in power during nine presidencies: "I'm going to make sure that he didn't survive 10 U.S. presidents. Castro is unique in many respects. He represents the only non-democratic, at least, elected government in the hemisphere. He is uniquely brutal. He is still tyrannizing his own people. He lures the vulnerable and the naive Americans down there and puts on shows for them and they come back and do his propaganda. There are not many people who can pull that sort of thing off. He's obviously in bad health. That situation, probably, is in God's hands. He will probably be succeeded by someone who's no better than him, and that is Raul. And we should treat Raul with the same contempt that we show Castro, including keeping the embargo on Cuba."

1. I'm GOING to make sure that he DIDN'T survive 10 U.S. presidents?
How the hell do you insure something that already happened?

Look like ol' Fred has inherited George W."Is our Children Learning?" Bush's gift of gab and tenuous grasp of English grammar.

9. These people are all fucking crazy.
It's so hard for me to believe that anyone we throw up angainst these guys wouldn't win in a landslide. But the reality somehow is that it will probably be tight to the wire and one of them might actually win or "win" as Chimp has done twice.

10. Thompson's "Campaign HQ" must be in a secret bunker buried deep in NINETEEN SEVENTY-NINE!
Does this clueless excuse for a human/monkfish hybrid
have ANYTHING to say that's less than 20 years past RELEVANT?

It's just sad that he's wandering around freely-
clearly, if he had any grandkids who cared about him,
he wouldn't be.

36. Seems it may be a crime if
he were saying otherwise. In essence, to say "if the opportunity (elected) arises in the future to have Castro killed, I intend/will do so" is bound to be highly illegal.

That said, I agree with your suggestion as to what he really meant. He'd have to be pretty far off his meds to say he plans to kill a foreign leader if elected.

Point to ponder though, what efforts (if any) has he made in the past concerning Castro? Sounds like just more pandering.

39. It's a shame so many people never make the connection between the Missile Crisis,
Cuba's turning to Russia for protection, and the previous invasion from the U.S. in the Bay of Pigs.

Russia secured a promise from the U.S. to never officially invade Cuba, ever again. I don't think anyone can expect the current pResident to honor that promise, however!

People just won't take the time to think! The Missile Crisis was a result of Cuba's fear of being invaded again.

40. Did Dumbass Thompson write his entire platform in 2002?
Last time I bothered listening to him, he was talking as if Iraq still had WMD's. Now he's threatening to kill a man who's been gravely ill for over a year. At least he managed to figure out that Raul Castro is Fidel's likely successor (although I don't remember ever reading that Raul officially gave the reigns back to Fidel)
