Disclaimers: I liked these gossipers when they were on the E!1 Channel years ago, & when they went off the air, the place they were available was at MURDOCH's NYP. The three of them frequently feature political tidbits. One of them, Liz SMITH is a Dem & Friend-of-Bill. The oldest-person-named-"Cindy"-(ADAMS) is undeniably a wingnut but swims the cocktail circuit with big fish of both parties.
Despite the wingnuttiness of the source, I agree that SHRUM has been a disaster of a consultant for Dems, and obviously I disagree with the comment about GORE losing. I agree with the part about his election's should have having been a shoo-in.
I don't get the reference to Brooke ASTOR. Does her name equate with "serene"?

DEMOCRATIC political strategist Bob Shrum has come out of retirement - he's actually been teaching at NYU - and moved to London to help British Prime Minister Gordon Brown spin his way out of a series of minor scandals and major p.r. blunders. "What is Brown thinking?" mused our source. "Shrum lost eight presidential elections, including Al Gore, which should have been a shoo-in." Plugged-in observers also note that Brown's recent speeches have sounded like past discourses by former Shrum clients Gore and John Kerry. Another client, Sen. Joe Biden, saw his 1988 presidential campaign implode after charges of plagiarism when he gave speeches lifted from former Labor Party leader Neil Kinnock.
Big Mouth Bashes Mormons
HBO execs would prefer if Lawrence O'Donnell would keep his mouth shut on the subject of Mormons. The Democrat, an MSNBC pundit, also plays a lawyer on "Big Love," the HBO hit about a Utah polygamist with three wives. HBO made a big effort when it launched "Big Love" to assure the Church of Latter-Day Saints it wasn't an attack on them. Mormons officially ended the practice of polygamy in 1890. But O'Donnell was on "The McLaughlin Group" Sunday denouncing the religion of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney as a "demented, Scientology-like . . . racist faith . . . based on the work of a lying, fraudulent criminal . . .
anti-American, pro-slavery, and a rapist." Panelists Pat Buchanan, Monica Crowley and Eleanor Clift had trouble being heard as McLaughlin told the shouting O'Donnell, "Please relinquish!" Laughed one viewer: "He made Eleanor Clift look like Brooke Astor."
