Man Accidently Shoots Gun Range Owner

SAN RAFAEL (AP) ― A man who was taking his 12-year-old son on his first trip to a shooting range accidentally shot and wounded the owner of the range.

The incident occurred Monday evening at the Bullseye Precision Indoor Shooting Range in San Rafael. Police say Joseph Moore, 49, accidentally fired a .22-caliber rental gun, hitting range owner Bill Byrd in the stomach.

Byrd was taken to Marin General Hospital and was listed in stable condition.

1. Joseph Moore was ready for anything. If trouble came along, he was prepared.

2. The "Bullseye Precision" shooting range . . .
Uh . . . NOT.

I hope the guy is okay. Renting guns to people off the street sounds like dangerous work.

16. You are absolutely correct - Unfortunately most parents today are not qualified to teach it
I was lucky. My stepfather grew up poor, in a family that relied partly on subsistence hunting for food. He became a very good shot at an early age.

He sserved as a Radioman in the Navy in World War II. After the war, one of his duties was teaching basic rifle to recruits. He taught my brother and me how to safely handle, unload, clean, and finally shoot firearms when we were very young. It's instinctive for me now. I even find myself avoiding pointing things like broom handles at people.

14. Yes, it's very humorous that an innocent man was injured by a careless person

:eyes:

If we had basic gun safety training in public schools, this kind of accidental shooting would happen even less often than it does now.

15. I feel sorry foer the guy who got shot too, BUT I have to tell ya,
anyone who owns or runs a shooting range is always a heck of a lot more careful than this guy was!

What you way it true. You never know who is paying to use the range, how experienced they are, or how much of a careless idiot they might be! You NEVER get in front of a possible shooter until ALL GUNS ARE DOWN!

19. If you're the owner of a gun range
you have to accept the fact that your odds of getting shot are going to increase. I'm sure the owner always knew that this could one day happen.
