Bush doesn't represent us (Climate Change)
Dear fellow American,

I'm writing from Bali, Indonesia. It's hot here, it's humid--and it's infuriating. Our government is blocking progress at the all-important climate change negotiations here, even though it knows that the American people don't support its actions. Let's tell the world that the Bush administration doesn't represent us. Sign this petition now:

Most countries here at Bali are working urgently to craft a treaty capable of tackling the climate crisis. Everyone understands the stakes, and negotiators are working late--when I left the conference center at 10:30pm tonight, they were showing no signs of slowing.

Every few hours, the agreement here changes--one moment, the treaty calls for serious cuts in climate emissions; the next moment, Bush has had his way and the cuts are out. The negotiations are on a knife's edge. We have 48 hours to try to tip the balance--to signal to the world that the American people are on their side, and encourage them to stand up to Bush's team by keeping the cuts in the treaty. Join me in signing this petition, and I'll make sure it reaches the key delegations here. It reads, in full:

Dear world: please ignore President Bush. He doesn't represent us.

Together, we can send the world a message--a message of hope, a message that change is coming, a message that the Bush administration's actions are out of step with the American people, and that Americans take our global responsibilities seriously even if our own government doesn't.

Most Americans, like most people everywhere, don't want catastrophic climate change.

Most Americans, like most people everywhere, want leaders to work together to forge a strong agreement that can ensure a livable planet for our children and grandchildren.

Most Americans don't have an official representative here. So let's represent ourselves. Please do sign this petition, and send it to your friends.

With hope,

Ben Wikler
