We usually do.
It is really disheartening to see all of the threads about this poll and that poll, and just who is the most electable. There hasn't been so much talk about issues, details of candidates plans; you know, the things that ultimately matter. I'm sure most of you understand that polls are biased in one way or another, and can be easily skewed. But to also talk about why we should vote for candidate X, because he or she is the most electable?
I'm a pretty stubborn and uncompromising man, when it comes to choosing who I want for president. I like to really study the individuals and their past performances, then compare.
There is a reason I'm voting for Dennis Kucinich, and it has nothing to do with whether his daddy worked in a goddamned mill, his haircut, cute little slogans like "I'm for change," (whatever the hell that means. Every four years some damned candidate pulls a Robert Redford and campaigns for change.) or whether he is already intimately familiar with the White House.
So, the reasons I am casting a vote for Kucinich are two-fold. He mirrors what I am looking for in a leader. In ten years as a congressman he has only missed five percent of votes on Capitol Hill. He has shown that he has principles and the courage of his convictions. Who among the present candidates voted against the IWR, the Patriot act, AND introduced articles of impeachment against Dick Cheney, and is currently preparing articles of impeachment against George Bush? There is only one candidate that fits that bill. Aren't these the issues that matter most to us progressives? Hell, we talk about these things all day, every day. You don't hear the other candidates talking about impeachment, let alone doing anything about it. The other candidates already failed my test, when it came time to stand for something really important, while Kucinich has nothing to evade or apologize for. And the other candidates? They are so busy going around Iowa and New Hampshire telling everyone what we ought to do, while Kucinich is introducing his health plan as legislation. I like a man of action, don't you? While the others are busy talking about their plans, he is busy trying to turn his health plan into legislation.
Look into your hearts and souls and really try and determine who best exemplifies what you are looking for as a president. Kucinich has vowed to pull troops out of Iraq and create a department of peace (a novel idea) Who else among the leading candidates has made that promise?
I am starving for real change. As God is my witness, I truly believe that Dennis Kucinich is the only democratic candidate principled and resolute enough to offer us what we so desperately need right now.
I don't mean to come off as condescending. It's just that I have seen too many posts where people like Kucinich, but feel he can't win, and therefore won't vote for him because they are afraid of this or that. To those of you who feel that way, please vote your conscience. We could pull off a miracle. How exciting would that be?
