Look, alls I knows is that the following will happen come next year...
I) Whoever wins the Democratic nomination will instantly be hailed as the worst, most risky, and most insulting choice in the history of the Democratic Party.

II) Whoever wins the GOP nomination will be instantly loathed, of course, but many will argue that our own nominee isn't much better.

III) Heading into November, many of us will express our disappointment with our country's electoral process. Several will pledge to stay home. Others will vote, grudgingly, but there will be much grandstanding talk to the effect of "What's the damn point anymore?"

IVA) If our candidate wins, we will all gear up to be terribly disappointed by our new Democratic president. Then, of course, we will be terribly disappointed by him/her.

IVB1) If our candidate loses (which is far more likely), we will blame the new Republican president for the ensuing 4 years of hell, but most will blame our losing candidate and those who voted for him/her to win the primary in the first place.

IVB2) In 4 short years, said losing candidate will be proclaimed by all to be one of our party's leading voices, and even "the best president we never had!"

V) And then in 2012, the whole process will be repeated...

VI) And repeated...

VII) And repeated.

1. Too bleak for me; did you know I'm usually an optimist?
I'm looking forward to November 08 with relish, though I still retain hope in my heart about any kind of impeachment proceedings. See? Optimist!

2. Heh, I used to be a optimist...
...but what's been going on lately on this here board hasn't given me much room for hope.

I just pray 2008 will be the year we finally break the cycle of eating our own.

6. I 'think' it's normal for primary season, but don't really know.
But once I decided on Obama (or Edwards :silly:) I'm gung-ho and try not to be too disruptive. But opinions count, too!

And forget this board; what's been going on with the Dems (or lack thereof) is what we should all be worrying about.

3. I'm a deeply pessimistic person
who is still open to pleasant surprises.

However, the fly in the ointment is the cadre of professional campaign handlers who will take leaves of absence from their usual corporate lobbying jobs to once again package whoever our candidate is in order to appeal to the mythical swing voter and trying everything possible to avoid appealing to the Democratic Party's base of working people.

It's too bad our party is the party of nonviolence and superior morals. Their party would have put out contracts on equivalent bloodsuckers by now.

8. The error in this sort of thinkiing is that...
the rest of the country doesn't even know what DU is, much less thinks like that vocal minority here who can't take a breath without complaining about something. I'll pass on whether that is good, bad, or irreleveant, but it does seem to be the case.

Ignore the whining here, at Smirking Chimp, and at the rest of the whiniest of the leftwing blogs and get out there in meatspace where the "Netroots" is still a joke and real people elect other real people running for office.

9. I'm optimistic!
isn't that strange?

my candidate is far below all the 'top tier' fashionista candidates,
and i'm really proud that I could support a person who offers his experience as a public service instead of just wanting to 'win'

it's a good feeling
