If OB was the mudslinging type, he could point THAT out.

9. TERRIBLY worrisome ...
Bill lost some MAJOR points with me when he started hanging out with Poppy. Smacks of opportunism ... not attractive. You'd NEVER see Jimmy Carter hanging out with that crowd.

11. Agree. I suspect GHWB helped B Clinton out when he was getting slammed by
a lot of Republicans who had been backers of GHWB. Great irony. It is almost like (my opinion only) GHWB and K Starr were playing Good Cop/Bad Cop on Clinton.

I think GHWB was the ultimate evil CIA guy and his cover has never been completely blown.

7. Nothing new here.
Edited on Fri Dec-14-07 05:09 PM by mac56
This was discussed to death, and the dead horse given a vigorous beating, at least a year ago here on DU.

No. Big. Deal.

They're two of the three members of the Living Former Presidents Club. Naturally they'll strike up a friendship. I would too if I were in that position, and so would you. Not surprising in the least. Any candidate who tries to make hay out of this will just look foolish.

Nothing to see here. Move along, move along.

8. The candidate who points out to Dem audiences that Bush2 never would've happened
but for a Dem president sweeping under the rug all the outstanding matters of Poppy Bush's illegal operations that continued to come up throughout the 90s and this country must open the books on all of those operations that led this nation straight into a 9-11 and this Iraq war - that candidate would immediately become my choice for president.

Truth Matters to THIS Democrat.

Open Government accountable to the people matters to THIS Democrat.

after both had left office. The Ex-President's club is a very exclusive, close and personal one, if the personalities mesh.

13. Is this yet another attempt to attack HRC through WJC?
If so, you need to pay close attention to Rush Limbaugh. He is a master of suggesting guilt-by-association, and has long experience attacking Hillary and Bill by attacking those they hobnob with.

Big Dog has what some see as a problem, in that he wants so much to get good things done, that he will associate -- even cooperate, even socialize -- with otherwise disagreeable people in order to get their help. He is also a model Christian, in that he seems always to forgive, never to bear grudges, and never says anything cruel or untrue about a political enemy.

Clinton believes that he can do great good for the world if he works with GHW Bush. A lesser person would refuse to even speak to a man who had attacked him so nastily, but Clinton seems to be bigger than that.

Maybe he is being a GOOD example, not a bad one.

And so maybe he makes HRC look GOOD, not bad.

21. Maybe Bill & George are not that different politically?
I have always thought that Bill Clinton was a Repug LITE. After he lost the Gov. job he came back a more experienced & learned how to play the game. He is still playing the game. He is the Master Triangulator.

Soon it'll be someone else's turn in the barrel.

Honestly, I don't know why we keep putting all those memos out if not all of you read them.

17. I'm convinced that all Clinton ever wanted out of the presidency
was the chance to rub elbows with the "elite" like GHWB and the opportunity to line his pockets like they do. It appears as though he is getting a crumb or two thrown his way.

of course it may all be thrown back in HRC's face by the very people Bill is sucking up to.

I doubt it. But they've raised a lot of money for disaster victims together. I guess a lot of DUers would prefer that Clinton snub Bush I instead of raising tens of millions of dollars.

31. Me too...
I think it may have been they had something in common that brought them together. Fear... fear that Jr. was out of control. And the public showing of their friendship was to send Jr. a message... which he promptly missed completely.

You don't have to be best friends with someone and share all of their views to have a meeting of the minds and a genuine admiration for each other. It's called being a mature adult.

who actually worked his way from the literal bottom to the literal top and was deserving of it, as opposed to his sons who were handed everything they had because they were Pierce/Bush's. He respects that.
