For those who missed Bill Moyer's Fantastic Interview with Keith Olbermann
http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/12142007/watch.html

It really is a must watch to see two of the only truthtellers left in the sometimes espineless industry that is the media.

That whole weekend, when Kerry was overflowing the stadium to the rafters, MSM only showed photage of a pre-dawn Kerry getting out of a plane, weary and haggard, and very non-Presidential looking.

Nomention of the Success in Wisconsin on any MSM channel.

29. Actually, the Oprah/Obama thing was very, very good
I thought. The guest (whose name I didn't catch) made very good points that both Oprah and Obama, in efforts to broaden their appeal to the white, middle-class community, have generally left poor black people scratching their heads, wondering if they and their issues have been forgotten. An example he mentioned is that Obama, instead of breaking down the debacle in New Orleans as a race issue (which it most certainly was, in my opinion), couches it in terms of the incompetence of the administration. He has not gotten involved in the Jena 6 controversy. The guest said the reason that Clinton continues to do well in the black communities is because so many people feel like it's better to go with the "devil you know" rather than the devil you don't. He felt that of all the candidates, John Edwards actually is the only one speaking to the problems of the poor in this country.

It was really a very enlightening discussion and made a lot of good points. I thought it was going to be the Oprah/Obama show, too, but I was pleasantly surprised.

41. very thoughtful
this was a great interview - and I think the guest- Dr. Ronald Walters - University of Maryland I think - he worked on Jesse Jackson's campaign described perfectly the dilemma that Obama is in
I don't think he was necessarily negative - just facing facts - if Obama is framing everything in terms of the Black community it will work against him and if he doesn't it works against him too! I do think that more blacks will support him the more they hear from him - he didn't march for the Jena 6 but he does talk about them
This is the tightrope Obama is walking on - he is not the Rev Jackson - but then Jesse couldn't win - Obama is working to win this

37. Moyers was inspired
to do this conversation with K.O. It was a unique hour in PBS annals of great telecasts. I was taken by the way Moyers behaved with K.O. like he had found a long lost friend., and Keith's 'aw, shucks' manner. It was obvious that the deep admiration went both ways. The PBS will repeat this Moyers program several times over the next few days for those who missed it last night.

14. K&R because I am so sick & tired of some DU'ers accusing KO of rolling over
and playing dead for his "GE corporate overlords" every time he says something they happen to disagree with.

"Well, he said that because he was following the dictates of GE. They sign his paychecks."

No, he didn't. He said it because he speaks his mind, and sometimes he says things that this person or that person happens to disagree with. But he doesn't say it because he's forced to as a GE lapdog. He says it because he MEANS it.

That means you can trust him to ALWAYS speak his mind...whether it follows a party line or not, whether he agrees with your point of view or not.

That's a valuable thing.

Great, great show. And those young people asked good questions, too.

28. Here's what I don't understand....
I believe Keith when he says that MSNBC/GE will support him as long as he makes them money. But why wouldn't they do the same thing for Phil Donahue when he had the highest rated show on the network (and was therefore presumably making them money) a few years ago?

32. Olbermann and Moyers: true American heroes
Edited on Sat Dec-15-07 02:17 PM by abq e streeter
And for the rest of the MSM TV "news" "journalists" (not counting Faux of course, which they themselves in their heart of hearts have to know is a joke). I often wonder if somewhere deep down, they know that Moyers, KO, even Stewart, are exposing them for the sellout whores and frauds that they are, and whether they're embarrassed, even way down in the subconscious, at what they've allowed themselves to become. P.S. ---also agree with Keith that the Baltimore Orioles question was a relatively easy one...( I got em all, although took a few seconds to remember Dobson).

those two are just amazing.

the second piece made me sick. the plain, naked partisanship of martin and co is disgusting. he didn't even bother to PRETEND that he was listening to the people in the meetings, admitted his mind had already been made up.

WHEN can we get rid of these sellers of OUR airwaves?

Same with Kucinich. People wonder how he (Kucinich) ended up with such a stunning wife. It's not his looks, stature, or whatever - it's what's in the man's heart and mind and what kind of person he is that's attractive. Same with Olbermann.

49. Wonderful. My third middle-aged truth teller is Frank Rich. The Great Triumvirate.
That was actually the name of a superb book back in the '80s about Henry Clay, Daniel Webster and John C. Calhoun. But, the name could apply to Bill Moyers, Keith Olbermann and Frank Rich.

They are not, of course, alone. But I am glad they are on our side.

I was going to have to get up at 1pm to watch this tomorrow, now I don't have to :>

I found out there was a dude named Olbermann on tv because of DU. I've been watching him on msnbc.com almost every day since then. He's the only guy out there who sees what some of us are seeing I think and certainly the only one talking about it.

Watching the interview was great. He seems honest on his show but in the interview, he just came across as one of the few greats we have in this country at the moment: Gore, Kucinich, Olbermann. With people like them we may survive the next hundred years which looks like it's going to be one of the hardest periods humanity has ever faced.

Given a choice, Kucinich-Gore with Olbermann keeping them honest. We'd all stand a really good chance.
