Welcome To America
I'm not normally a songwriter, but part of this one just popped into my head one day and so I actually went to the trouble to finish it. The tune's in my head too. But I am clueless about this kind of thing so maybe someone would be interested in advancing it further, perhaps to the ultimate pinnacle of YouTube video ;-)

I have Naomi Wolf in mind as I sing it to myself...

WELCOME TO AMERICA

Once our leaders were elected
We still vote but now they’re selected
For us

The press has been consolidated
The real truth is much too complicated, don’t
Bore us

Welcome to America

The laws are changed with a signing statement
Against all reason our president
Ignores us

The bodies lie where our flag’s unfurled
But we don’t understand why the world
Abhors us

Welcome to America

What’s the Constitution
Just a Goddamned piece of paper
Let the Congress stand and watch
As the oil barons rape her
Don’t you dare try to resist
Or we’ll put you on a list
Say goodbye to all your freedoms
As they all go up in vapor...

(Solo)

Welcome to America

I wrote this song I hoped you’d listen
But now I’m locked in a secret prison...
Why....
Why, oh why....
They won’t let me die
I’ll never see the sky
Why....
Please tell me why.....
Why.......

America, goodbye.

6. I have done a lot of work...
with Mark.

But we never made any money.

Mark is one of the music industry's Great Unknown Treasures.

Reminds me a little bit of Kristoferson both in sound and style.

So you have worked with him? That must have been an amazing experience.

9. "amazing experience"?
Hell, I barely survived. Mark is a wild man.

My years in the biz were some of the most thrilling, exhilarating years of my life.

Being away from the biz is even better.

10. Count yourself blessed.
You have done something that most of us could only dream of.

11. I've had thoughts like that many a time while driving cross country
but I don't have nearly the talent to put it in quite so effective words. Did you write that? It's excellent!

12. Well...
I co-wrote that.

The premise and most of the body is mine, but a friend supplied most of the really wicked turns.

I pretty much half-bake most of my stuff, but I am fortunate enough to know some great "Closers".
