8 to 12 Inches of Snow Expected - Blizzard Conditions - Snow Drifts to Exceed 2 Feet !!!
Michigan.

I love my state, but at these moments I ask myself why I live here.

Time to throw another log on the fire and have another Ginger Brandy...

Good thing I fired up the Snow Blower earlier today and went to Mass...

...WINTER STORM WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM EST SUNDAY...

THE WINTER STORM WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM EST SUNDAY.

LIGHT SNOW WILL OVERSPREAD THE AREA AGAIN THIS EVENING INCREASING IN INTENSITY BY MIDNIGHT. HEAVY SNOW WILL CONTINUE INTO THE EARLY AFTERNOON HOURS TOMORROW BEFORE TAPERING OFF. TOTAL SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 8 TO 12 INCHES ARE EXPECTED...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS. NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS ARE ANTICIPATED AS NORTHEASTERLY WINDS INCREASE TO 20 TO 30 MPH. SIGNIFICANT BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF SNOW AND RESULTING REDUCED VISIBILITIES WILL SEVERELY HAMPER TRANSPORTATION. SNOW DRIFTS WILL LIKELY EXCEED TWO FEET DUE TO THE STRONG WINDS AND BLOWING SNOW.

A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW...ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. STRONG WINDS ARE EXPECTED. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE.

I just posted that below. The ground was basically bare until a few days ago when we got maybe an inch. It's frosty, but no snow. We're all really depressed.

ed. I assume you mean Anchorage, Alaska, not Anchorage, Alabama.

32. No snow in Alabama, but it looks like far northeastern TN is in for a right smart spell of snow.
Just rain here. Lots of rain, which is good. We have a drought, ya might have heard about it!

But we are rather frantic over the fact that it might drop to 28F in Huntsville tomorrow night! I slept with windows open until 2 nights ago. . .

down in the Southeast. I'm glad that you're getting a little rain out of this storm. I just wish we were getting some of the snow. The ice they can keep, but the snow would be great.

4. When I lived in East Lansing we those regularly, I was grateful that it happened
...only during the winter months....hehehehe

My heart goes out to you, I think it was during the winter of 1967-68 when the MSU campus was shut down for nearly a week and my wife who was a dietitian at Lansing General Hospital was taken to work in a National Guard half-track vehicle and was there four days.

I think it will be okay for the Holidays and all, but after Jan 1, I hope it all melts...

In the meantime, it's a total "Cuddle Alert" as the local weatherman says....

11. Thanks for reminding me why I moved to NM when I left Boston
Of course, it's no guarantee. We got socked with an 18 incher last year and there are no snow plows in town.

However, most of our snow behaves itself and stays on the mountains, looking lovely but not screwing up our lives.

Stay warm! Been there, done that, moved the hell away from it.

I have to give the state and county workers a LOT of credit here in Michigan for doing as good a job as they do with the lack of budget.

16. Two feet of snow?
Is that a lot? Drifting can be a problem. Just stay home. The media sounds like you all might die.

Hey that's not a lot of snow. Ask the people who live on the East side of the Great Lakes if two feet is a lot of snow? Heck they just ski on it.

Maybe you haven't had snow in awhile? It's winter isn't it?

If find the power outages more disturbing. What a snow storm leaves 100,000 without power for weeks? Guess you'd better get another power company or bury your power lines. It would be cheaper don't you think?

Why aren't we burying our power lines instead of so many all over our country being without power all the time? We'd rather have 700 military bases around the world? Take over countries who have wealth for our own? Who profits? We the people without power certainly don't.

Priorities stink in this country since Reagan.

36. I grew up on the east side of Lake Michigan in Michigan.
When I was a kid, 8-12 was a good snowfall, but nothing to hyperventilate about. We'd be out of school for a couple of days. Two feet, however, would be good for a week, especially if it was blowing. Generally, though, folks up north know what to do. I'm sorry that there's not enough $$$ for snowplows. I hate to see this happen to my home state.

Here in the DC area, a few flakes results in mass panic and talk of shutting down the government. We may get a bit tomorrow, and that means that the grocery stores tonight probably have no bread or milk in stock. I stay home not because I'm afraid to drive in the snow, but because I'm afraid of other who think that they can drive in the snow.

The weather channel folk now either didn't grow up in snow country or are looking for ratings.

38. burying cables and wires
ain't necessarily all it's cracked up to be.

When cables and other equipment are above ground, you have a better chance of seeing and dealing with problems. I live in a neighborhood with 30 year old with deteriorating underground facilities and the power company won't deal with it except to do some patches when obvious problems arise. This is even though by house nearly burned down from an electrical fire 3 years ago caused by an underground electrical problem.

And we still often loses power/phone service during storms. At some point, poles are going to be involved, even if your local lines are underground.

Think back to last Christmas - temps of about 60. People were golfing in January and winter started about February and was gone a month and a half later. Driving and shoveling aside, I'm glad to see the snow - the Great Lakes levels aren't exactly at all-time highs.
